Thousand Series (5000)

Bought a 5000 today (NOT a Fordson Major) but one in the thousand series. I've not found much on this and tractordata site about this tractor. Stamped numbers are 9M30B above AJ7016. I think production on these tractors stopped maybe 1975 or so. Sooo, let's hear from some other owner's about the good, bad and ugly of this Blue Boy. I see many 2000 and 3000 models all the time but I needed a larger model and I think the 5000 will do the job. Thanks in advance for your input.

One of the finest tractors of its size ever built. As bullet proof as they come. One of my neighbors bought his about 25 years ago and in his words "it was all worn out then". He uses it every day year around as a chore tractor. Parks it outside with a tank heater plugged in for winter. Diesels are the top of the line but the gassers work well too. Lots of parts available. lots of people know a lot about them. Only ones I'd steer clear of are SOS models.
A better forum for your questions would be over on the Ford board.

Ditto what Bill(Wis) said about them being one of the best ever of that size. About the only complaints I've heard are low hydraulic pump volume (mainly heard in regards to loader use) and not enough h.p. on the '65 to early '68 models with the smaller 233 engine. The Select-O-Speed had been around for 7 years by the time the 5000 was introduced, and the bugs had been pretty well worked out. The 5000 also received a heavier version of the SOS than any other model. If they are still working right, and they get proper maintainance, they will be fine. And yes, they were made through '75.

I worked 3 years on a dairy farm in the early 80's where the 5000 was the big tractor.

Though I was always a Massey Ferguson guy, that 5000 did everything that was asked of it with flying colors.

Same tractor is still pulling light duty around that farm. I'm a believer.
