So this is new territory for me. I have a 93 JD backhoe and would like to get an assortment of buckets for it (ditching, trenching, etc). My quesion is, how universal are buckets? Can I take one off a 580 case and put it on my Deere? How about from a Ford? Would basically any Deere bucket work? Educate me.

Thank you!

John Deere buckets and Ford buckets are different. I wish they would all make a standard bucket. If you get a really good deal on a bucket, you could weld on mounts to fit. I don't know about the Case. I have a 2' and a 3' bucket for my Ford. The 3' works perfect for filtrators. I would like to find a 1' bucket for water or electric lines. If you hear of one let me know.

Case 580B bucket won't fit on a J.D. or at least none of the J.D. buckets that I've tried will fit on my Case. 12" buckets are terrible to get the mud out of if you're dipping wet stuff.

You could however probably move the attachment points if the holes are the same diameter, don't know about them. Just my thoughts, Keith

Usta get real frustrated digging blue clay in the Santa Clara County Valley in California...learned to only let the bucket fill about 2/3rds full or so. "More dippin' but no stickin'".
