reading Olds story about the opposum got me to wondering.

I have the constant ringing in the ears, which i guess it only bothers me when i get some quite time then it stands out.
especially when i try to go to sleep.

has anyone with tenninitis ever had it to go away or is it just something to live with forever. i dont know when it started as it seems it has been there forever already.

recon i should go to VA if i can still use it. no wartime service. need to see if i can get the new style card anyway. have the old one but just went to get my name on the books.

Constant high pitched whine in left ear.Too much abuse starting with operating chain saw since 14 y.o.
And plowing, discing, mowing ,baling, etc. with the Ford 8-N with no muffler or header pipe, also starting when I was 14.
And an awful lot of noise since then,R+R bands, heavy construction, race cars, andonandon.

Are you taking any prescriptions? Some of them can cause ringing. I am suffering right now, I understand that it is part of withdrawal from one of my medicines that I last took last Wednesday. In a few more days I should improve.

Never went away for dad. They never could say for sure, but think dad had a mini mini stroke to bring it on. Went to bed one day ofter corn picking, woke up the next day & ear was totally deaf but ringing.

I would suggest that you see an ear, nose and throat specialist to have the ringing checked out ASAP.

Constantly ringing ears is one of the symptoms of Meniere's Disease. Other symptoms include a full feeling in the inner ear, progressive deafness and worsening balance, which often includes episodes of vertigo that can last hours, or even for days. Vertigo is the sensation of incredible dizziness and motion, even when you KNOW that your surroundings are really not moving. It is really awful and puts you on the ground.

I have had Meniere's for more than 15 years. It ended up causing me to take an early, medical retirement because sometimes I just plain could not perform, or do anything besides vomit very well. I have had 2 operations to try to get the vertigo to stop happening, but they didn't seem to help. Neither have any of the medications or dietary restrictions. I would say that getting out of my high stress job helped the vertigo episodes to get less numerous.

But my left ear has rung constantly for at least 15 years and I am almost completely deaf in that ear now, although loud sounds on that side are quite painful. I don't think much about the ringing most of the time--I guess I have learned to tune it out pretty well. But it does bother me when there are several tones going at the same time and they are dissonant. Kind of like several trumpets playing very high tones while being badly out of tune with each other. And the ringing sometimes bothers me when I am trying to go to sleep.

Luckily, my right ear doesn't have too bad hearing. It rings sometimes too, but not constantly. I no longer can tell which direction a sound is coming from, and the "stereo effect" is something I no longer hear. But I am thankful that I have not gone completely deaf, and sure pray that the Meniere's will not progress to my right ear.

Unfortunately the doctors cannot say what causes Meniere's. I am the only one in my large extended family to have it, and it is not believed to be genetic. It may be one of the auto-immune problems or it could be after effects of much earlier ear infections. I suspect that running vehicles at high speeds with the window down might have caused damage, and I also did some shooting without ear protection years ago. And I did a lot of field work when I was a kid with pretty loud tractors and no ear protection. I am sure a heck of a lot more careful with my hearing than I used to be!

But by all means I suggest that you have the problem studied by a good ENT specialist. Maybe they might actually be able to help you, or at least ease your concerns. I wish you good luck and hope your ear ringing just goes away...or if it doesn't go away, that you learn to tune the ringing noise out.

I would say that atleast 75% of the guys on this site that farmed before the modern cab have rining in the ears , that makes us all at least 10% disabled . A lot of the add on cracker box cabs were louder than know cab . Running a IH 856 when I was about 18 and it was so loud in that cab I could nt stand it so I stuck cigerette filters in my ears , ended up at the emergency room getting them dug out that night . Never stick anything smaller than your elbow in your ear !!

I had that from years caused by working beside a concrete agitator with a motor, since retirement 1994 it has slackened but I still get it often.
It diverts your mind if you listen to the radio, music etc, something to counteract.

I've had ringing in my ears about as long as I can remember. Although it never really goes away, it gets worse when I don't mind my blood pressure and glucose.

I think it"s called tintinitus or something like that. It"s a condition usually related to just plain being around too much noise throughout one"s life--like farming, logging, machinery, shooting, etc. w/out ear protection. Not related to HBP.

When you hear that ringing, be assured that hearing aids aren"t far behind.

Have had this ringing for years. Have been close to my fair share of loud noises. Just thought it come with old age.

It doesn't have to be related to loud noises - I have it - and been on tractors all my life, but I remember in first grade - the teacher asked each of us to listen very carefully and then tell what we could hear...

Bird chirping outside, footsteps in the hall, etc...

Everyone looked at me sort of funny when I told them I could hear a high-pitched ringing/whistling that was always around - especially when it was quiet.

At age 6 - I hadn't been around much loud noise, yet...

Had it for 53 years. Caused by both military and civilian life. You might as well get used to it cause it's always there. Father in law was at Hickam Field, Pearl harbor when the Japanese attacked. Said the bombs sounded like sledge hammers hitting anvils. Now his ears really rang.

Sometimes the ringing can be eliminated by fitting proper hearing aids. The new ones can be programed to cancel out certain noise levels. Could work. If bad enough worth seeing a hearing aid specialest.

High blood pressure and clogged arteries cause it.Loud noise makes it worse. If it was because of running tractors Ive run them with no muffler, and straight pipes on big trucks.Last time I had my hearing checked it worked good, but the ringing is still there.By getting my blood pressure normal it makes the ringing slack off.Thats how it works on me anyway.

Can't remember how long I've had it and'd prolly be lonely without it. Spent 10 years in the military as a mechanic but operated chainsaws, loud motorcycles and pounded on stuff before and after. Don't think I could look in the mirror if I tried to make the government give me something for it.

I take drenamin (not a prescription drug). It has reduced the "whine" about 50% to 75%.

There are a some over the counter drops that my co-worker's husband uses that are effective. (To messy for me)

You can check your local drug store for the drops and google drenamin.

Yes you have to learn to live with it. Also yes put in a claim with the V.A. it is in fact a 10% disability and that is about $125 a month if you win your claim which is pretty much a given on that type of problem. I put in for a claim on that and get in with only taking a hearing test.

I've had it (tinitus) for over 30 years. No big deal except when I get somewhere quiet, and then I really notice it. Some people get electric-gizmos implanted that are supposed to somewhat counter-act the pitch. There was some movie star in the news lately that got the implant(can't recall who it was).

I've been around loud stuff my whole life. Guns, tractors, rock music as Woodstock? etc. But, some people get tinitus who haven't been around loud noise. Ear infections, broken ear drums, loud noise, and probably other things can do it.

My grandma had it almost her entire life and she grew up in a rural farming area of France that used horses, not tractors.

If everyone in this country that has a ringing in there ears got $125 a month from the gov. we would be bankrupt in a short time but I guess you got it coming . Just think how much better the money situation would be in this country if it was nt paying out for ringing ears and stubed toes !

Yep:
Just noticed it about a year or so ago - can't hear as good as well!
As JD said maybe related to the things we have been exposed to: yeah them concerts in the 70's/80's, impact from work, straight pipes vs mufflers, etc. Kinda thought it was just a part of getting "OLD" - no offense "old".

Glad I'm not the only one to chime in!
SURE DO LOVE THIS SITE

Have the problem big time. Actually, when I lay down at night there are three annoying sounds. One is the ringing; another sounds like a truck motor off in a distance; and the third is water running like in a laundry tub. Yes I've picked up the phone with no one there!

I feel for you folks I'm 63 and my hearing is perfect (can't see worth a crap) been around a lot of loud noises all my life without hearing protection. Now as for having the ringing in the ears since a young age I have a couple friends who have had it for like forever but they grew up on a dairy farm and their parents always used milk right out of the can or cooler one got Reuhmatic fever and wears two hearing aids the other has always had ringing in his ears but their parents never pasteurized their milk but my mom always did "God bless her" so just maybe one possible cause. HBP can cause it in some cases I'm not a doctor. Again my hearing has saved me and several others a few times in Viet Nam and I can't imagine not hearing well. Good Luck.

been ringing in both ears all my adult life....years on a 1155 Massey with twin straight pipes didn't help...neither did my Harley with drag pipes...worse is in my left ear caused by a 30rd clip run through a short barrel M-16 CAR....Kent

I also have a hard time hearing if there are more than one person talking or if there is background noise.

as far as blood pressure all the times i have been checked it has always been normal.

guess been around too much noise without protection.

Certified tinnitus for a long time. Probably could be caused by hundred different things. Mine was something that I remember a doctor using maybe a lance and punching holes in eardrums(something like kids today with drain tubes)When I got older, everytime I would get a head cold, my ears would pop themselves and drain and then I got better. Don't bother me too much. Probably got used to it. Do have hearing loss about 30 percent.

Ringing both ears 40 years now. Satchell charge about 2 feet in front of face. Compliments of Viet Nam. Most remfs can't relate to that. Have a goodun.
