Unsticking An Engine

I've got a JD New Generation tractor with a 180 CID gas engine that is stuck. Is there a best way to work on front cylinder? I have removed the plugs and poured oil in each cylinder, and have gotten a lot out of the bottom of the back 3, but nothing out of the front. I assume this is because the vertical exhaust pipe is closest to the front cylinder. Definitely eager for suggestions. Thanks for your time.

resently I loosened valve rocker arms on co-op welded 3/8 pipe on old spark plug (porcelen removed) hooked hydrulic fron another tractor to a piston which I knew was not on bottom. worked very well I was driving that tractor last week

Try the other suggestions. I've heard of guys using a grease zerk on a spark plug end to put pressure in a cylinder as a grease gun generates quite a bit of pressure.

On mine, #2 and 3 were stuck so bad due to rain I couldn't get them loose until I busted the pistons below the wrist pins. Soaked it, used hydraulic jacks ect ect.

I've also heard of guys using diesel to soak. that's the only thing I didn't try.

If the tips below don't work within a reasonable time (couple of weeks), might as well bite the bullet and remove the head, because if its stuck that tight, you'll probably have to replace at least part of the "innards".

As Gene said I would say ATF. FILL the cylinders with ATF, but you need to get that oil out first or it will not work as well. Oil is way to thick to do much plus just plain isn't very good for that job. As I said fill them with ATF and put the plugs back in to keep dirt etc out, also if it has a vertical pipe on it pour ATF down the pie so as to get the cylinders even fuller, ya it will only fill one or to up more

Agreed.

If its that rusty inside having the valves ground and the head trued up wouldn't be a bad idea even if it does come "unstuck" in the near future. Along with cleaning up the bores (wiping and steel wooling the rust out) you can see the true condition of the engine. You may just decide its not worth the effort.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try them and will try to report back what happens.

Purchase a gasket set and tear everything apart. There is more than one mechanism stuck. Why try to bar something over and bend a pushrod etc?
Anytime I've unbolted the hea doff a stuck engine. I'm glad I didn't try busting it over.
