Flood over corn question.

I think I know the answer but I might sleep a little better tonight if I could get a good answer. Entire corn crop was about 24 days old and 4 to 5 in high before Sunday night. Now it all has been under from 2 to 8 ft of water.
Has not had any current, all backwater. No hot
sunny weather so far. Just went and looked at a 70 acre field that spent better that 3 days but cleared up last night. It looked good, standing and did not looked scaled (I think that is the word) Is there a chance corn will do this or do I need to be getting the planter ready... I was thinking by the first of the week we would just take hardland planter and move over about 4 inches and plant again..Might have something.
Does al the fertlize leave with the water..? We had fertlized pretty heavy..

Corn will survive being under water better than soybeans. Keep your fingers crossed. Might sound counter productive, but the best thing that could happen after the wate goes down is to have a rain shower to wash the mud off the corn.

Can't say about the fertilizer.

If you do replant you need to completly kill the old corn, or it will compete with the new stuff and neither one will be worth a darn. Either kill it with spray or disc it down. Corn can survive under water for so many hours, but I am not sure of that number. Check something like Iowa State website, should be able to find some info.

just give it a few days i had some this year that was under for a week maybe? and it came up just fine. when it is dry enough if you have a roatry hoe run over the feild with it. it will help a lot if you do

Here is a story in the local paper this week that might help some.

Good luck with it, I know that has to suck. Glad mine was still in the sack when the rain last week. I have not seen any that had been under back water but there is alot around here that was planted two weeks ago that ain't up yet,,,

I would wait a few days.If plants seem to look good and are recovering well my choice would be to leave it.Fertilizer will have leached away more than likely.I"d side dress nitrogen more heavly and let it be.If plant stand and plant qualty look bad after a few days or longer, you will have to tear up the field or burn down what is there and start over.Don"t try to interplant.Alot will depend on the sunshine and temperture.Like another poster said a little shot of rain to wash the dirt off is a very good thing, then no more rain for a little while.I wish you well.Time is still on your side"

UP at day break and things look a lot better this morning.. What that was uncovred yesterday really looks good and water is off about 405 more this morning. Supposed to be record breaking temp here today then showers tonight.
The good thing is we were a little heavy on population since this is river bottom land we can crowd the popluation..Things may work out.
Right now it is wait and see.. If I can figure out this photo posting will get a photo attached

grew up in a river valley that had a lot of corn. Folks had flood insurance and would make money twice. Once cause the fields flooded and once under the table for letting someone else pick it. Helped y neighbor pick and feed bunches and never knew of a problem.
