carpenter bees...

Hello jose bagge,
I have being plugging the holes with little stones and seems to work. You can squirt some flying insect killer in the holes as well.
Works for me.
Guido.

I fight these things every year, there's no way you can find all of their holes to plug up. If you do see one, I find a cheap can of brake clean knock's 'em dead. I call a guy, he sprays my house for $100 once a year.

Type in the pest you want killed and it gives you the best chemical to kill them with, just need a credit card to buy with.

I"ve knocked them dead out of the air with carb cleaner, but it"s not a long term fix. They really like the 2x4"s under my lean to. I"ve sprayed the 2x4"s with liquid insecticide and they"ve stayed away. Must have soaked in enough to make them want to go somewhere else.

I have 'em and have found that anything kills them. However the next year another batch shows up--a few less in population. You need to plug the hole or other bees will take up residence. Caulk, grease, foam whatever.
After some years you'll get on top of it--at least I'm hoping.

They are actually storing next years team in the hole. It goes up a little and then they bore horizontally and stack up larvae. We have found that if you soak some cotton in a pest spray for bees, shove that up the hole followed by some fine steel wool and then cap it with some caulk or plastic wood, it seems to stop the redeployment operation the next year.

This spring I ripped a 2x8 on my tablesaw. There was remains of several bees on the saw. From the entry hole they had bored about 6 inches each way. There were 8 or 9 carpenter bees in the board. They will really mess up a building or house trim. DH

I have filled their holes with the spray foam insulation at night when I knew they were in the hole. I have also used Liquid Nails inside their holes. On the house where I couldn't reach, I waited until the bees were 2 feet from the house. With my skeet gun, I used #9 shot in a 2 3/4 dram target load and shot them. They usually vanished.
