Bought this pickup in 2005-had around 95,000 miles on it. It has been very trouble free-just has needed 2 batteries and 1 battery cable, until Saturday! Has almost 124,000 miles now. I had 2 carpenter projects going in my garage at the same time, Saturday I was going to get one done and out, so it would not get damaged. Drove the truck out, then went to the lumber yard, parked it outside. Go to park it in the garage that evening, no fire! Plenty of crank, but no fire. Dad came over Sunday with his code reader-non set, of course! Showed good spark, felt the fuel pump relay clicking to the key, so, diagnosed it as a fuel pump. He volunteered to change it right were it sat, and had it running by 2 pm Monday! How fortunate that it quit at home! It could have happened anywhere! Greg

GM trucks are kind of known for this problem. I'm not recomending this, but sometimes they will run if you get them started (starting fluid) just not enough fuel pressure to start on its own. This might work in a pinch, but you didn't hear it from me.

I've heard of guys using a small propane torch to start some vehicles, not lit of course just letting the tank drain into the intake to get the vehicle started or at least into the shop. chris

Dad's 98 1-ton had the same thing.. but it had about 12k on it back then.. However, he was less lucky.. His went out on the road pulling a loaded 1,000 gal. nurse tank. Hasn't bothered since (of course, it gets about 10 miles a week worth of use.. 12 years old and still only got about 70k on it)

And Dorfs AREN'T?

Apparently, I've had two of the damned things think they were Chevys!

It's a lotta fun taking out that 34 gallon tank if it's full. Even if you siphon out as much gas as you can there's still a bunch left. Some guys pull the bed rather than drop the tank.

The first question Dad had for me was how full is the tank? It was about 1/2. He had just done his '88 Chevy pickup, and had successfully used 2 floor jacks on the tank-so he could roll it around. Then, once it is all unhooked, he lifts the vehicle high enough to roll the tank out and get to the top. I had a different project going in the shop, but was able to watch the progress-it really seemed to work slick. If the tank was full, well, that would be different! Greg

124,000 and probably it's 1st pump !! Better call the better bussiness bureau! Better yet just outlaw Chevy trucks all together! Were any of you people around in the '50,s , '60,s or '70,s when everything had mechanical pumps and went bad before 50,000 and if you were real lucky would pump your crankcase full of gas to boot and ruin the bearings and / or catch on fire?? WAAAA WAAA WAAA aren't we spoiled. My '99 Sub has 127,000 and original pump , if I have to change it tomorrow I will thank Chevrolet for 127,000 miles of carefree driving! Hand chokes , malfunctioning auto chokes , bias tires , drum front brakes , 4 year body rust out , chalking junk paint jobs ,mechanical windshield washer pumps , etc etc....how soon we all forget. The good ole days...when cars were junk.
