Local Kentucky Scenery

Since everyone was posting pictures of their area of the country , here is a few of our local Kentucky scenery. It's fields around my house ,actually . I posted some pictures back in the winter of the same area with snow covering it , now you can see what it's like when it's warm and green here .

How much rain did you get over your way? It's letting up here now at 4am at work but I have not made it out to check the gauge yet. Too much other stuff to watch when the weather is acting like this around here.

Seems like every field has a pond in the middle. We visited near Shelbyville, TN a few years back. Delightful evening, sitting in lawn chairs watching the lightning bugs, and it dawned on me- NO MOSQUITOS! And we were in the country, with ponds all over the place. Was that just a local phenomenon?

I really like the picture of the barn in the distance. You live in a much different area of kentucky than I am familiar with. Marion,Casey and Taylor Counties are my families historical areas of Kentucky they all called home.I was born at Merrimac in Taylor County. Any way the barn reminds me of so many I have seen when in Kentucky.

It just started around daybreak. Raining off and on now . The heaveir stuff is supposed to start tonight into tommorrow night ,wih 3-6 inches by then. Right now ,it's not raining ,but it was storming earlier .

Here in Bowling Green, I had 2.6" at 11:00 this morning. Still raining pretty good at 1:15. The kayakers will be out in force tomorrow afternoon on the river that makes my back border.

John Harmon and Everyone Else,

I live up in the north eastern corner of Barren County , where Barren , Hart and Metcalfe Counties all come together . And depending on which way you go , I'm also about 5 - 7 miles from the Green county line. We live back behind some woods ,so there's always some shady spots around here. There are also two ponds that you saw in the pictures close to the house. There is one pond a little father away from the house that is visiable from the house ,but wasn't in the pictures. There is also a pond about a 1/2 mile back behind the house that wasn't in the pictures . The two ponds that you saw in the pictures were cleaned out about 5 years ago. To make matters worse ,out front of the house, next to the highway, less than 1/2 a mile away are to decent sizes swampy areas . To make a long story short , we have a big mosquito problem , but it's not as big as you might think with all this water and woods around. Actually, there was two barns originally ,in the distance behind the house ,they were next to each other, but one of them burnt about 7 years ago.

Here in Butler County 4 inches as of 9:30 pm.
