That's a Jayhawk stacker in photo #4; they were built in Salina, Kansas. If I remember correctly the first one was made by a farmer at Hoxie, KS. There is a patent model in the collections of the Kansas State Historical Society.

Nice country out there.Bought a tractor from a farmer/collector out in Davenport Washington a few years ago.Had a nice visit and enjoyed the scenery.

I remember seeing a Jayhawk stacker used in southwestern Iowa, think it was in the late 40s, saw the 1st baler in 1949 in that area.

My grandfather had one of those stackers rotting away, parked in a field in western Pawnee county Kansas in the 60s. Everytime I asked my dad how the thing worked he just got annoyed. I was nearly an adult before I realized he simply didn't know either.

The old sh!t wagon in pic #3 looks just like the one I inherited when I bought my place. It's still sitting there

can't figure out how you guys keep that stuff from going to the scrap yard ...down here the scrappers have picked the state clean...they evan use garden rakes to be sure they don't miss anything...if it's not locked up it's fair game for them ...a lot of stuff is loaded at night...I had to bring all my parts tractors to my house & put in the yard so I could keep an eye on them...

I have a hydraulic lift Jayhawk stacker in my back yard that I ran for several years on our farm. They could lift about 800lbs of loose hay maybe 20 feet high and dump it on the stack. It hooked to a large cast ball mounted to the front of the tractor. It was like pushing a trailer all day, you had to pay attention to your driving at all times. The one in the picture is a cable lift and has been converted to a work scaffold. My Dad made hay all over the neighbor hood for a number of years with a CASE VAC and his stacker. Maybe more than you wanted to know but there it is. Barry.

(quoted from post at 20:59:05 04/29/10) Man, I'd give a lot for that baler......too bad it's so far from IL.
