12 Gauge shotshells....reloading....

Where is a good place to buy equipment/supplies to reload 12 Gauge shotshells? We (myself, freinds, wife) are developing a habbit of shooting clay pigeons, and would like to load our own shells....what are good brands/models, etc.???

A guy I go to church with has a Dillon press.
He reloads his own 12 gage shells.

Look for a website, I get their catalog every month or so. (lots of hot women in the catalog too)

I have a MEC reloader set for 12 guage trap loads. I"ve always like the MEC better than Pacific or others because it seems like MEC has a more positive action, and goes from one station to the next with minimum movement.

The first station pokes the old primer out and resizes the brass, the next station seats a new primer an you slide the bar to drop the powder, the next station seats the wad and you slide the bar the other way to drop the shot, and the final station crimps the shell.

Most any gun shop or large sporting goods store like Scheels should have the supplies. Doesn"t hurt to shop around, and get to know people in the process.

mec is one of the better ones. if you are not in a big hurry to get shells done LEE makes one called the lee load-all. I have thiat one. it"s a single stage press that you have to move the shell from station to station to do each step. MEC makes a progressive that is much faster, but costs alot more. Look in cabela"s.com, midway usa.com, or just type in a search for MEC, Lee, or even RCBS( somewhat pricey though) shotgun reloaders.

Check e-bay ,lots of good Mec loaders on there . I just sold ALL my 12 ga reloading suff , Mec Grabber , 20 bags of wads , garbage bag full of emptiy hulls . lotos of misc . Got a whopping $200 bucks for it .Dillon makes super loader but $$$$

563-964-2670 MEC 12 guage every time you pull the lever you get a shell. Northeast Iowa. Leave a message, spme times I have problems hearing the messages.

The Dillon presses are the standard for progressive presses, but as far as I know they are for metallic cartridges only. No shotshells.

Back in the day, the Pacific presses were the Cadillac for shotshell loading. Hornady took over Pacific many years ago, but I don't know if the current Hornady machines are as good as the old Pacific units.

You simply cannot beat the Hornady 366, equal it perhaps, but not beat it in manual reloaders. I've run literally thousands of rounds though mine with no issues. I wish the shot & powder reservoirs were larger, but it's really a minor complaint.

Want a Chevy or Cadillac? Get er done Mec 9000G,lots of stamped parts seem flimsy but they load a nice shell. Hornady,Ponsness Warren,RCBS,Dillon,Spolar the Cadillac.
Then if you wish you could hydraulic or electric power several of these.
I own a RCBS and have loaded 32,000 shells.Built like a brick crap house, free parts for life and excellent support.
Don't let anyone talk you into a single stage press to learn on. What a waste of time and money.Get a progressive press and take your time learning.
Don't pay retail for your supplies.Look for a club that does alot of shooting, they will be buying in large quantities and passing it on to the shooters. Or go to a major trap shoot such as a state shoot and buy off one of the trailer loads there.Pay retail and you won't save any money over buying mid grade shells.
Always check your charge weights with a powder scale.
Don't jump in to save money. It can be an enjoyable hobby if you like mechanical things and like the satisfaction of shooting a good score with shells you loaded yourself. Mark

We have the same hobby during certain times of the year. As much as I hate to say it, when walmart has Remington, 100 shells for $22.99, I dont bother reloading. I have a MEC jr. You can make a better load than walmrt for the money, but I dont have time.

I am quite sure they make a shot shell reloader cause I have seen them in their catalog. Dillon catalog that is.

Anyone looking for empty 12 gauge hulls? In years past, our gun club could sell these empties for a few $$$ / 100. Now we can't even give them away. Had to pay the landfill to get rid of them last year.

I'd say that reloading is wayyyy down.

MEC reloaders are very popular. I have had 2 and loaded thousands of shells. Very reliable. Components are getting pricey.

Jerry

For 12ga trap loads I almost have to wonder if you can't buy them cheaper ?
I have done alot of reloading in the past. I doubt I saved any money as I spent alot on equipment. I enjoyed doing it though.
