Picking up an old Worthington Tractor???? Has a chrysler 6 in it. Any ifo on these. It is serial number G-1623. Thanks

As I understand it; the Worthington Tractor Company was bought out in it's entirity by The Essex Tractor Company just before the New Millimum. They replaced the Chrysler engine with an Asian engine that was over rated as to HP and fuel consumption. I heard just yesterday that Essex is trying to buy CNH from Fiat!!!.
Sorry, just venting my cynical mind for the day. Good luck with your new project. The people on here are great and will offer you lots of good advice. I have never seen a Worthington, so maybe you could post some pics.

I have a Worthington, but it is not in repairable shape. Mine is a Chief model and has an 8N Ford engine radiator and hood. As the flathead 4 cylinder engine has a side mount distributor, I'd guess it is a 1951 model, maybe 52 at the newest. As the engine block has 1/2 of the bell housing cast into the backside, the only tranny it easily fits is either the Ford N tractor tranny, but mine has the 4 speed Ford truck tranny. The output shaft of the tranny has a welded ~4" diam sprocket which rides just forward of the similar sprocket on the dual wheel differential (1 ton truck axle). They are joined by a double wide chain. My Worthington was a golf course tractor, sat quite low and pulled a gang reel mower. There was no suspension, but it was capable of 40+mph with a single pedal brake sending fluid to both rear drum brakes. Dual rear wheels were fluid filled with chloride that ate the wheels to death. I have seen this model on the web.

Googled Essex Tractor are they a manufacturer
or a truck and tractor parts distributor? Maybe
I googled the wrong Essex

Probably refering to mythical ESSEX Tri directional , invented by early forum members... Didn't have enuf POWER to Pull well meaning folx leggs. but was alotta fun talking about .. worthington Tractor Parts / Is All i ever Heard Of

Seems to me that my neighbor brought in a worthington not long ago.. I know it's painted now, but not sure of much else about it. It looked as if it was a golf course tractor, as a former poster said. He's fabricating me up some things for a project I have, when he gets them done, I'll ask him about it.

They were made 12 miles from my house in Stroudsburg PA. I have posted a link on the company history and their are several collector clubs around the US for them if you need help looking for parts.
