I have a allis b the battery box may not be original I am wondering what would be recommended to put inside the cover in between the battery & the cover to prevent it from shorting out? Not much room in between the top of the battery & the cover. Thanks!
 
Ya, the taller 6 volt batterys are right up to the top. I could, the last time I bought a 6 volt battery, get the shorter battery at Rural King.

I have put a chip board like poster paper over the top of the battery and then cut a old inter tube the size of the battery and put that over the paper.

I bought a taller battery box from OEM parts but after finding the shorter batterys never put it on any thing.
 
I took an old inner tube and cut a piece that fits over the battery and the lid will go down over top of it. It was on an Allis B as well.
 
The original was a piece of masonite with three holes to allow for removal of the battery caps. This was back in the 50's when you still had to add distilled water to a battery occasionally. Anything that insulates the battery posts will work.
