o/t humor...In case you didn't know

For everyone who has worked on an automobile or newer tractor maybe you dont know why things are so hard to get at and fix. there is a reason the hands of a 3 year old and strength of a twenty year old are required in most situations. the answer is very simple.

Some Engineer caught a mechanic with his wife. It has to be that simple, why else would anyone make something so sadistic to work on.

Just my rant for all those with bloody busted nuckles. have a good day.

Absolutely...
I am now an Engineer, but started life as a mechanic, then electronics technician.

I can't belive some of the design decisions I see from kids who only 3 dimensional experience is CAD. In CAD it is easy to intall a 4" bolt through a bunch of parts. Just passes right through.

(In theory, this is no difference between reality and theory)

My favorite "what were they thinking" moment was replacing a taillight cover on a (new then) 88 Firebird. I had half the tool box out to remove the whole interior of the back end just to get to the lamp, bolted in from the inside, when I get all the way to the lamp it has thumb screws. Wow that saved me some time!! NOT

I think there is a tiny hidden camera that nobody except the engineers know about, and each time the tractor or whatever is worked on the person or persons doing the repairs are the joke at all engineers meetings. It has to be this way ( a bad joke ) because nobody in there right mind would build anything the way somethings are built. All you can say is, why?

No real advantage to designing easy-to-repair equipment- most owners will take it to the dealer for repairs, and if Ford dealer has to move the engine to change plugs (and charges customer $500), that's an advantage to the company. Difficulty of repair is seldom a deal-breaker, because most buyers don't know about that problem when they buy.

I am with Paul just because the mouse clickers can draw it doesn't mean that it will work. Its easy for them to do when they arn't the ones making the parts.

My son has a 2002 Alero. Someone backed into his tail light and broke the lens. The enire unit needs to be replaced; can't just buy a lense. Cost? Around $150.00! Sure doesn't make much sense. But, most engineers aren't blessed with much common sense.

Yep!,Just like external_linkcare. If the folks that designed it had to use it, I'll bet it would be a lot different.
