wd vs, wd -45

The main difference is engine power. Both have the same hydraulic system. Depending on the year of WD, it could have the same transmission. All WD45's have a curved shift lever. Older WD's have a straight shift lever. Near the end of WD production they started using the WD45 trans.

The WD45 is a more powerful version of the WD. The engine has 25 more cubic inches and several more HP. The 45 also has wider rear rims, larger tires and the AC traction booster system.

Both tractors have live hydraulics and live PTO via the hand clutch.

The WD did have the traction booster system, just no gauge to indicate the amount of weight transfer. Yes, both standard and oversize tires on the 45 were an inch wider than standard and oversize on the WD. 11 and 12 vs 12 and 13.
 
There' more to it than this (obviously), but our WD had a 4 cylinder motor (engine) and our WD-45 had a 6 cylinder. :>)
 
Increased engine displacement on the WD45 gave it considerably more power. At the same rated RPM (1400) the gasoline 4 cyl 226 cu in the WD 45 put out about 7-8 more HP than the 201 cu in WD in the Nebraska tests. Several improvemnts came along as the WD and WD45 evolved and they weren't always introduced at the beginning of a model year. The transmission improvements noted below and power steering as an option in 1956 were two examples. The transmission (hand clutch) was beefed up on the WD45. Snap coupler became a standard feature at serial #151381 and up. A 230 cu in 6 cyl diesel was added to the WD45 after Allis Chalmers acquired Buda Engine. Smoothest diesel I had ever heard at that time. It pulled 5908 lbs in test G at Nebraska versus 5441 for the WD45 gasser and 4304 for the old WD.
 
Not much that I can add to what others have told you. WD=34hp and the WD45 is around 45hp. WD is the older of the 2 and the WD45 newer as in the WD was made then production stopped on it and the WD45 was then the next model
 
A lot of other differences beside the engines, transmissions, etc mentioned below. Most 45s had 13 in rims for 13-28s, now 14.9-28s. Taller fenders for the bigger tires, bigger radiator, etc.
