Watched a crop of 2009 field corn being harvested this weekend in western NY.Any thought on how good this will be and do you think it was worth the time and effort? Bill M.

Market price minus dock for damage grain. Must be worth it I saw a guy cutting soybeans Thursday and Friday 2 miles from the farm, lots of dust and wild onions (could smell it for miles). Better late than never! Bandit

Neighbor finish up about a week and a half ago. Moisture run from 12.2 down to 11.4. Weight was good yet. color was good, looked like fall harvested corn.

Well, something is better than nothing which is what you get if you leave it in the field. As long as you make more than your harvesting costs, it would be advisable.

Don't know about moisture or damage, but think the main concern would be how much is left in the field. Doesn't it get knocked down pretty bad? What are you going to do about volunteer corn?

Noticed an 80 of beans harvested in the last couple of weeks before planting - Got hit with the early frost last fall and can't be worth nuthing.
Opinions?

I cut some in May about 20 years ago for my uncle. It yielded about 110 bushels per acre. He said what he got out in fall only was around 120. Looked good and moisture was good. Wasn't terrible amount of field loss.

I'm not a farmer, but I guess this year was the exception in our area. Profit wise some felt they did better leaving it in the field till this spring. The deer and turkeys were the biggest problem, moistue, drying costs, was the biggest plus.
