Sure looks like sand to me. It lasted 15 to 20 years and pumped a lot of water. Think if it had been a cheapy plastic impeller. Well is a gravel pack. Big hole was drilled, casing set,
filled in around with well gravel to filter water,called a gravel pack. This method is used on a lot of big irrigation wells. Replacement cost not bad if you figure it on a year to year basis.
