I"ve got my garden about half planted--all the cool weather stuff. I"ve got it laid out and it looks like I"m going to have a lot more room than most years. I"ve been companion planting and most things don"t like tomatoes or vice versa. I have or will have in order from south to north, beans, beets, sugar pod peas, potaotes, broccoli and cabbage with onions in the row and lettuce, spinach, and radishes in between the broccoli and cabbage rows, and chard. Starting from the north side, I"ll have carrots, tomatoes, and peppers. That leaves about a 10-foot by 40-foot space between the cabbage and the tomatoes. On the west end of the garden I plan corn, cukes, watermellon and squash. I also plan to plant nasturtium and marigolds to protect crops and zinias for the butterflies. What can I plant in this space that will get along with cabbage and tomatoes? I thought about maybe another patch or corn or beans, hoping the marigolds would repel the hookworms. How close can antagonnists be planted to each other? Thanks.
