Hi, the 2,4-D question earlier provoked another question from me. I am considering getting my private pesticide applicator licence for Minnesota. The question I have is once I get certified where can I buy the restricted use pesticides? I am just getting started farming and don't really know. Thanks for any advice.

Any crop production supplier.... Farm Service, Van Diest, COOP. Not sure whats in your area but if they sell fertilizer and anhydrous and have sprayers they probably will sell to you if you got your license.

If you'd care to share your town, a lot of us MN folk are on here.

Hefty, most any farm elevator coop has a pesticide division, there are even mail order wholesalers that sell & ship. Fertilizer places too.

Yup, most farm co-ops will sell the restricted use. Tractor Supply sells it too, but generally more $$. Glyphosate is the generic name for Round Up. You pay $$ for the Round Up name.

If you're planning on getting your license, order the course book in advance and read it thoroughly before the certification class. Makes it a lot easier to pass the class.

A couple of years ago, we had a family reunion in Fargo, ND. While there, I went to a large farm store and found that they would sell me 2-4D and generic roundup in 2.5 gallon containers no questions asked. At home, near Spokane, I would need to have a license to buy 2-4D in any quantity larger than about a gallon, and at much lower active ingredient concentrations. The small quantities really run up the cost of the chemicals.

So I ended up hauling home 15 gallons of 2-4D and 10 gallons of the concentrated generic roundup. I only use the herbicides on my own property and really resent having to go around the law to obtain the herbicides at a decent price. I am still using the chemicals I brought home from that reunion, and they still seem to work just fine.

Depending on what chemicals you want to get, you might check out buying in North Dakota. Good luck!
