OT - Any VW Mechanics or somebody familiar w/ Jetta

Daughter has a 2000 Jetta w/2.0 gas engine that has been running rough. Pulled codes and it states "Cylinder 4 Misfire". Fair enough...Replace plugs and wires, no improvement. Found a Vacuum leak and repaired it as well while under the hood, was hoping that might have been related to the issue. Working backwards (and higher cost), am now at the coilpack. Local parts place has a replacement for $130 which is now on my desk. Looking under the hood it looks like you need 3 monkey hands to get to the coilpack. I have an ALLDATA subscription for this car, but it gives no information on this procedure, but indicates it should be a half hour job. So....Thinking it can't be as hard as it looks, but sure could use some insight as to what needs to be removed to get access.

Have searched the VW forums without success so I come back to this fount of knowledge.

TIA,

Kirk

I believe you found the problem. Sorry I can't help you with the installation. I purposely never bought a VW newer than 91 cause I's not smart enough to work on the newer ones and not built to fit in tight places.

Good Luck.

Daughter searched and found this car about 2 years ago using some cost criteria from me and some safety requirements from her mother. She really likes it and it drives awfully nice for a small car. Car has 165,000 miles now, and I just keep having to fix things. Seems like every 3 months or so something renders it undriveable until I either find time or give up and take it to my favorite mechanic. Some of this is expected for a 10 year old vehicle, but it seems like we have purchased somebody elses maintenance nightmare. This is just the next chapter, but starting to think about trading it on something else.

How are the foals and puppies coming along? Probably need some photo updates.

If you stick with a VW, get something with the 1.8 liter. Best little gopher and work car I had was an 87 VW Polo with a 1 liter motor. You, your two buddies, and a rack of beer could fit in the engine compartment with the engine, got almost 50mpg, and would scoot along about 90mph.
Puppies are fine, 1st 8 will be ready to sell in a couple weeks, lost 2 of the second litter but it happens. My old girl is a pro and knows if her babies are OK or not, she didn't fuss over these 2 like the rest, we tube fed them a few days but it was obvious something wasn't right so I done the deed. Foals are loving life. Smallest and ugliest mare with the smallest belly had the biggest and prettiest foal so far this year. I'll get some pics together.

If it makes you feel any better my wife's ten year old Honda needs something every couple months as does my ten year old Jetta. I still think it's cheaper than buying new.

I hear that,

Haven't bought a "NEW" vehicle since 1994. Cheapest car you will ever own is the one already in your driveway. Generally have pretty good luck fixing things and keeping them running a while. Internet is a real great tool for finding how to get something done if you have never seen it before which is true of many of my repairs.

Can still say the most expensive vehicle in my driveway is the tractor too.

Might wanna check it for a recall.

I got a notice in the mail for my 03 Passat (1.8T) that there was a recall on the coil packs. I have yet to bring it in, but will have it done when I bring it in for the 80,000 mile timeing belt and water pump replacement later this year.
