I rinsed the ground in dirt off of my garage floor. But I still have rust stains from shovels and the rear tractor blade on the concrete and few old oil stains.

What is the best way to get rust off of concrete? I am wondering if any of you guys know cause I did a search on the net and they said, vinegar, that dont work real well. And as far as oil stains I am thinking about using laq. thinner or try muratic acid? What do you think?

I am trying to get ready for epoxy floor coating.

Can't help you with the rust, but oildry (or kitty litter) works great for oil. Put it down and walk on it a few days and you will have a really white spot on the concrete. For spots I usually put down plenty and then put it back in the bucket for the next spill. If it is a big spill put down some to sop it up and when you have all the liquid up follow the above for the last of it.

yes I am thinking that the way to get the old oil stains off is with the acid. I got the dirt off today and as soon as I buy the epoxy then I wait for a couple of warm days. The preparation for the epoxy takes a while. I need to buy a small bristle brush for the acid, a push broom wont work well. I will use either silica sand or the paint flec chips on the epoxy for the nonslip surface.

For the oil Varsol (charcoal starter fluid) then as larry@stinescorner recomended...

I run a garage and get complemented all the time about how clean the floor is,,, its plain concrete,,, nuttin special cept I know how to run a mop,,, I clean as I go.

On the oil, I used to put a little gasoline on & work it with a broom, then cover with oil-dry. Be careful with the gas. I think you will need the acid for the rust.

You need to remove the oil and grease first. I just use the stoddard solvent that I use in my wash tanks and scrub it a bit. The I cover it with floor-dri and grind it in with my feet. After the oil is gone scrub the whole floor with muratic acid and rinse with plenty of water. Once it has dried you should have a good surface for the epoxy to adhere to.

BEST solution would be to find a wife/GF/significant other that would allow you to actually USE the garage instead of insisting that it look nice!
