early planting

I cannot believe up in Mi. here people are going crazy planting! I know it is warm out but it seems a bit early for corn and soybeans.....wheat looks good though.

Got my oats in early this week, and figure I was running late in planting them. Haven"t seen much other planting going on yet here in central Michigan. You can bet the farmers are going to be hitting the fields hard in the next few days, however!

If the soil is 50 F or colder, sweet corn in going to rot, regardless where. It's snowing lightly today here in central NY and soil is 48 degrees F. Light sleet is coming down at my place in northern Michigan, so I doubt the soil is any warmer. Last night is was 30 degrees F here in NY and it was 33 degrees F in Alpena, Michigan. Not exactly time to put on your bikini yet.
