Allis Chalmers 40 combine

I have the chance to buy an allis model 40 combine with a bagging platform instead of the grain box. its in decent shape and not rusted out. it does need a new canvas however. can anybody tell me if this is something worth dragging home?

Go for it; I bought one at an estate sale ($25.00) about 15 years ago with the idea of restoring it. It was way down on my to-do list and I realized I wasn't gonna live long enough to get it all done, so I gave it to a neighbor.

would make a great show piece, keep asking questions, you may have to get creatiive with parts. most people have never heard of,let alone seen one,the sacker is a BONUS!

so its a bit of an uncommon machine then? i think with a new canvas it would work, it has a model t engine as the power unit, however all the origional pto parts are right there with it to put it back to origional

The 40 is very collectable. If the condition is any where near decent it could be a valuable piece. Even if you don't want to keep it you could trade for something that you want.

Try the Allis Chalmers or the Combine forum. Those combines are out there. A Deere collector here had one given to him a few years back. I thought it was an IH 42R when I first saw it. An Allis collector parades it for him from time to time.
