John Deere 272 single bottom plow

We picked this up yesterday at a flea market for $25, we thought it might work for our 1939 JD H, would this work if we attached a running wheel. We would like to stay with a JD H implement.
What is this plow for and what circa is it from as we can find no information on a JD 272 plow?
If anyone knows, what tractor did this come off of and what parts are missing if any?
I did take off a part that looked like a wheel possibly slid up in there as the part looked like it was able to hold a circular object.
see pics below
We tried to use this on our farmall and our case 400 to no avail as it did not dig into the ground. After using the implement we would like to primer and paint it to be shown with our parade tractor. My husband seems to think this is not even for an H or anything even close to that year. Please help if you can.

Post this on the JD site and then find the model you need then get an owners manual so when you find one you will get all the parts. This happens all the time someone doesent get all the goodies or the seller doesent realy know what he is selling is complete or what it fits for sure.

thanks for your input, I did post in the JD forum. We do have an owners manual but it does not state anything about implements for that year of tractor and the manual we have is for 1939-1947. Thanks anyway though.

Looks like a horse drawn walking plow to me. You are missing the wooden handles that person used to force it in the ground and guide it while walking behind it.

You have a horse drawn walking plow. It would not plow hooking it to the hitch on a tractor. Plus the point is worn pretty badly. In the second picture the piece on the right is the clevis that attaches the harness to the plow, the multiple holes allows you to adjust the suck of the plow. The angle iron on the front of the plow beam with the row of hole is where the clevis hooks to adjust the width of furrow. You are missing the handles and some of the mounting brackets for them. The John Deere "H" would have used a pull type plow with rubber tires or steel wheels. It would not have had an integral plow like you are used to seeing on newer tractors. Some common models are: #4, #44, and #444. They would have been made around the same time as your tractor. There are some pictured on this site under the implement photo section.

Forgot. At twenty five dollars you did not get hurt. These walking plows are in demand for decorations as well as restoration.
