J.D. 2010 gas engine needed

I live in B.C. Canada and an old farmer neighbour of mine needs a good used gas engine for his 2010 John Deere. The engine in it is 40 years old and never been touched. It is the block plate engine and to repair would be very expensive. He does,t have time to overhaul it. Any good wrecker sites I might try?

Thanks, Don from Canada

Look around for a combine engine or power unit. They are more commonly found and often in pretty good shape. Same basic engine as used in the 2010 gassers.

HA145, HB145, TA145G, etc.

There were also some 2010 type engines that were sleeveless available in combines, but I doubt repair parts are easy to find for them. HA-155D is one (diesel version).

The sleeve deck motors are more expensive to work on. Bearings, rings, and gaskets are economical. If the sleeve deck bores are not too worn he might be able to do an in frame fairly easy and cheap. If you do find an engine to switch make sure to keep, or switch, the serial number plate. The 2010s and 1010s have the plate on the side of the motor. These 2010s are starting to gain in value. Collectors starting to do New Generation Series sets.

Gasser should not be as hard to find as a good running Diesel in salvage yards , you can try WORLEYS IN campbellsburg , in.elerfud stuutering Gasser ,,, .. Never have I ever seen one run well until after it had been running for a full hour at full throttle and load ... the DC case would do twice as much on the same amount of fuel with NO complaints .. If it were mine I would get a diesel

I agree with jd seller. It maybe cheaper/faster to just do a full and proper job on the head. Then just a set of rings, bearings, seals and gaskets on the bottom end.
Is the engine running but burning oil etc? Or has it stopped with a bang and a whimper?
