Joeie Chittwood revisited

I guess what they say "everybody needs a hobby" is probably true! I'd lean more towards an old Impala or pick up from the financial stand point though.

I remember Chittwood and crew at our local county fair sometime in the early 60's.
At that time their white Chevy stunt cars included a Corvair and Corvette.

I saw his son, Joie do some of his stunts at the inaugaral nascar race at Chicagoland in Joliet. Went up on two tires on a banked track and didn't use any ramps to get it up there. I don't recall if he had passengers in it with him making the inaugaral lap on the track before the race started. All skill though. Joie Jr. was the track president at the time, and was for a few more years before moving on to the Indy track. I hope he's doing well. Nice guy, and obviously picked up a few things from Dad. Wouldn't it be fun to have a boss tell you to take a spin with him, and the next thing you know...YEEEEE HAWWWW, HOLD ON?!?!? Woo Hoo!!!

Grin.

During the years of 1951-53 Chitwood was using flat head V8 Fords at county fairs in Iowa.

He put on a nice show.

The announcer said that one car "The carburetor didn't carb right, the brakes didn't brake right and the pistons....well, they didn't work good either"!

I remember their shows in MN in the early to mid 70's. I'm sure they wouldn't get away with half that stuff now - flaming circles on the track, flaming walls, etc.
