throttle linkage backwards?

I'm totally pulling my hair out today. Unless I've lost my mind, if you push the throttle lever forward the engine speed should increase. It's doing just the opposite. I have a '40 9N and this winter replaced the dash, so I've had that part of the throttle apart. Last fall I put a new throttle lever on when rebuilding the carb, but I'm certain the linkage was working properly after that. When I push the throttle forward the linkage above the exhaust manifold goes up, which rotates the governor linkage clockwise, which pulls the linkage connected to the carburetor towards the front of the tractor. The link to the throttle is mounted on the bottom side of the lever on the carb, so when the throttle lever is moved forwards the lever on the carb moves counterclockwise (when viewed from the right side of the tractor), which closes the throttle? Have I gone insane??? Which part of this is incorrect?
Thank you!

Matt, if you are on your tractor and push the throttle lever away from you (forward), this will decrease your engine speed.

If you pull the throttle lever toward you (backward), this will increase your engine speed.

It sounds like you have everything connected correctly....

Oh! That's typical for me. I get in my head that something should be a certain way then I can't let it go. Thanks for correcting me, I got this tractor last year, just something to play around with, and it's taken many many hours to get it running. Just ran it around the field a couple times and it's running fine. Thanks again.

The IH series 86 tractors throttle is pushed forward to increase engine rpm. Young man was trying out a 1486 we had at dealership, he was used to pushing throttle forward to slow down, came to end of drive way, pushed throttle ahead, shot off end of drive, rolled it over, climbed out while his dad was watching him. I put a new cab on as IH would not stand behind any cab that had been previously damaged.

JD, MF, Farmall - have all 3 on my farm, all three increase in speed when you push throttle forward.

I know that modern tractors are setup to pull back to slow down, but lots of older utility type tractor's I've been on and around are the opposite. Our Massey 165 included. Sounds like it's right to me.
