ok my truck hates me, its has run fine up to now, [ about 85000 since overhaul] today after i made a delivery it sat and idled about a hour, when i got in and took of it had a bad miss, all gauges read normal, i eased it out of town and it seamed better, once out on the open road i opened her up, after several miles at, lets say goin to jail speed, i shut her down and started up from a dead stop, it ran fine, never had that happen before any ideas? truck is '87 w900b kenworth with a 3406b cat engine, also has ATTAC it if matters

I've had about ten of those motors and have had injector hang up or plug little couple times. Basically same thing run it or rev it hard and comes out of it. Doesn't seem to happen again or if it does not often.

I would check the fuel return line and make sure it is clear going back to tank. That line bleeds off any air that gets into the pump. I wonder if you had dirt in it and mannaged to blow it clear. Would be handy to know what was coming out the stack when it was missing too but you need an extra set of eyes for that.

Sounds like a bad injector to me. Were these replaced at O/H? I think one was running over. You took it to clean it out and as long as you kept it hot enough to burn the extra, you got it to run better. How is your fuel milage? Gary

yhanks guys, i'll see how it is after sitting overnight today, the injectors were replaced at overhaul according to the paperwork, hopefully things will be ok, april being tax month , income, gross recipts and road use tax, this not the time for the truck to decide to spend money too , fuel milage is aroud 4 to 4.5 cant see the top of the stacks there tall stack tops

4-4.5 mpg..??
That is the mileage we used to get with the 1693TA turned way UP...!! (2450rpm) and smoked like a freight train..!!
California didn't like it very much..!!

We got better mpg with an old 3408 coast-to-coast always full gross, with a freight box.,(CO KW)
We ran 3406's also and they seemed to get better mileage if they were turned up..6 to 6.4 in a Conv. Pete..

it would probably do better down in the plains my main operating area is in mountains, varries from 4500 to one road we deliver to has a ski area at the end elevation 12001 ft nearly all hard pulling , that road is so steep the tractor drive tires try to spin on dry pavement in 3rd or 4th gear, most is less steep but still pretty hard pulling, truck had a 13 speed with 373 rears

We had 4.11 rears and 13 over..

I had one load of flammables going West thru Denver...
Was told I would get an "OK" to pass thru the tunnel...(WRONG)..!!
Had to go "up the side-road" over the top....with NO Jake..!!!
That was in late June and there was still snow in the ditches and NO Guardrails up there..!!
Dropped in about 3rd Low back to the tunnel and Never could get off the brakes long enough for the trailer brakes to release..!!
Never got any brake smoke, but was grossing 80,000 and it was starting to get too dark to see any if they did..!!
A whole lot more Mountain than "El Cahon" in Calif..!!
At least, by that time we had Power Steering...!!
Ain't Truckin Great...!!!!

Ron..
