name the pup

Hello everyone
Just got posession of the prettyest little Red Bone coon hound pup. Ma and I can't agree on a name for him. Any suggestions would appreciated.
Thanks, Harry

My Son had a wonderful working coon dog He used to call it Mangy A$$ and so some wouldn't get upset for him calling him back he shortened it to Mangus

true story too one night he and a friend and both dogs were out Mangus was the lead dog and the other was learning. Now this dog was wearing a shock collar cause he had trouble learning. three guys in the cab and two dogs in the box on the back of the pickup.

Anyways, the truck as floor shift and guy in middle had to shift some as they went down the road to let room for shifter movement, and every so often the learning dog would take a nutty howling and bouncing around in the box . they would get out to see what was wrong and --- nothing they had this happen 3 times before the guy in the middle decided he was sitting on the remote for the shocker .

"Coldwater" and he can help with the dishes.

I had a dog called "Sooner" still have "Later"
also "Java" and "Max".
The last two are the kids dogs, couldn't handle the dogs and their own kids, and no time.

Couple recommendations for naming dogs.
Never selsct a name starting with "S" as many commands start with this letter.
Names ending in "Y" are more effective as the "Y" ending can be used quietly or emphatically to convey urgency.

My dog, Bandy showed up one snowy morning and adopted himself to me. Decided he was an abandoned dog and named him "Bandy" as short for abandoned.

Dogs will learn to come to just about anything they learn is associated with food or a belly rub (me too come to think of it). I like a simple one syllable name that doesn't ryhme with "no".

I had a friend whose dog responded to A**_ole. Personally, I like the name Fido. My dog responds to Buttmunch. It's a term of endearment to him. His tail starts wagging every time I call him that.

"afteryou" so that when anyone ask the name you can reply "I named the dog after you".

or

"Diogie" (D-O-G)

Red...............

Had a coonhound when I was a kid that was so good that before you turned him loose, you'd show him a stretching board of one size or another. He'd go and not bark tree until he had one the size you wanted. Worked out real well til Mom was ironing clothes on the front porch. Sister let the dog loose and he ran around the house, saw the ironing board, and we never saw him again......................

I wouldn't get in a hurry about naming him. He will do someting to earn a name. Had redbones when I was a kid. Great coonhounds.

Wow, thanks for all the witty responses. A decision has finally been made. He is officially The Copper Rex or Copper King and will be called Rex. Special thanks to NFO520
