O/T Fire Truck Project Need Help

My fire chief just bought one of our departments first engugines, its at 1939 Diamond T, we found it in a local barn a few miles away, the truck starts and runs and believe it or not all the lights work, we are needing a few minor things for it, was wondering if anybody knows of any good chat rooms for me to find some info, and parts for the old girl, not sure if we are going to repaint it or just bring the old paint back to life, you cant beat original is my thought, any input is much appreciated
Thanks Ben

I agree you can't beat original. I don't have any help for you though but send some pics sounds sweet to me. Our fire dept still uses a 54 binder don't know all of the specs but they are planning on retiring it next and if I have my way I'll end up with it.

Really that sounds pretty neat, This is my first fire truck, i have 12 old deeres ive restored and several plows, planters, picker, combine you name it its around here somewhere, lol but im really excited to get started on this ill def post pics for everyone to see

Aths is a good site, as 4010puller said; there"s also diamondtclassics.com for the Diamond T part and a couple fire truck sites for any special fire eqpmt info--spaamfa is the only one that comes to mind but there"s at least one more.
Diamond T"s were "assembled" trucks, so you"ll have to get what info you can off the engine, etc, unless the original paperwork is still with it. Good luck.

Ya im not really sure about the engine im not sure what it exactly is,its a 6 cylinder flat head motor but not sure the make or anything if you guys have any idea let me know ill get ya pics to help ya out

Glad someone is going to revive the old truck rather than scrapping. I have a 1963 GMC that was purchased new at the GM dealer in our local town. It has less than 7,000 miles on it and has never been out of this county. It starts and runs like a new truck, drives like a dream on the road.

Diamond T's used mostly ordinary Cont'ls and Hercs, but fire eqpmt, unless it's a pretty basic unit, sometimes came with larger than normal engines for more power, dependability in emergency situations, etc. Engines often had things like dual ign, larger cooling system for running while parked, larger oil capacity, etc.
Should be tag somewhere on engine, assuming original paperwork not there.
