RST co loades short 10 ga but the loads are light 11/4 oz. Gamebore in UK sell Tungsten Matrix, but cant get it here.I load most of my own,to 15/8 oz A few years back Bismuth was sold in the 27/8 inch length.

i had a ten, have a eight gage shell and have heard of a six. i also have a twenty eight single that my dad gave me when i was fourteen. wally

I had a friend from Sweden who was a commercial duck and goose hunter before moving to the US. He had a 2 gauge shotgun mounted on the deck of a small layout boat. He would paddle into a flock and blast away with the gun. Then he'd pick up his game and move on into another slough. There was not a limit on commercial hunters at that time.

Yup - would like to find one for the black bears roaming too close to the livestock: 1 slug followed by double ought shot when you're not aiming as well.

I got a 16 gage double barrel side by side. Winchester model 24. Great little gun for rabbits and pheasant.

My great Grandfather was a US Marshall in the indian nations. Out of Fort Smith Arkansas. We have his double barrel 10 guage shotgun. It was cut down to fit his saddle. Has not been fired in years.

I have Dad's 16 gage 26" full choke Single shot in my closet. I also had at one time a 28 Gage Sold it a few years back.

Goose hunted for years with 10 guage..Now use 3 1/2 in 12 guage seems to do a bout as good without all the pain..

10 guage shotguns are still manufactured and sold. I bought a new one just a few years ago for turkey hunting. When steel shot came out the 10 guage came back.

Well at one time there was the 6,8,10,12,16,20 and 410 all had there place and all had there down falls. The 6 and 8 gauge you had to be a big man to shot one or want to sit down hard and fast and where pretty much hand canons. And then there was the punt guns with a 2 inch bore and that was a true small bore canon

i fired one you want to hang on tight or get a sore sholder set on your back side i liked a 12G better old art

I've fired a bunch of shotguns. 10, 12, 16, 20, 28, and 410. I assume the 410 is a technically a 41 caliber.

8 guage shells are all metal, no paper or plastic. Used for breaking up glass stuck to the sides of vats. When furnaces melting glass are shut down for repairs, the glass hardens on the sides. The shot breaks it up. Not shot from a gun tho. Shot from special cylinders that bolt to the outside of the vats & fire thru holes at the opposite wall.

Getting a little off topic, but I saw a 4 gauge. It was in a Reno, NV gun museum. It was used 100+ years ago in an era where all the ladies wore feathers in their hats. The gun was attached to the front end of a camouflaged rowboat and the idea was to get as close to the flock of water birds as possible and then shoot as many birds as possible with one shot.
This practice, obviously, has been outlawed.
I wonder how many people tried to shoot it by placing it on the shoulder......

I have a highly engrved, Belgian made 24 gauge pinfire double barrel shotgun. It was brought home by my neigbor after he "liberated" it from it's woner in Germany in WWII.

Seen an 8 gauge double at a show and didn't purchase it.Wish I had, interesting wal hanger if nothing else.
8 gauge industrial shotguns are still used to clear slag from kilns and furnaces.
A 10 gauge with double 00 buck drops deer in thick cover the best I've ever seen. Less kick in a 10 gauge 3-1/2" Browning semi than a 2-3/4 12 gauge in a Mossberg 500 pump.

For what it's worth, I once heard that a .410 was a 36 gauge. I don't know the math so it's just hear-say.

I grew up with a 16 guage single shot- then was working for Herters Inc. (in a retail store in Olympia, WA in 1970), and was looking at a new 16 guage Remington 870 pump- boss said no one but me was interested in it, and I could have it for cost- paid about $68, as I recall. Still have it, and have a friend who reloads 16 guage shells for me.

Got a single shot 10 that will dislocate your shoulder and a turkey's head. My favorite shotgun!! The shell looks like a small cannon load.
