Planting Corn!

I was in kutztown pa the other day and there was a menonite farmer planting sweet corn and covering the rows with plastic he was hoping to get sweet corn to sell at his roadsise stand by july 4 . They take the rubber tires off their tractors and put steel wheels on them.

You do know your crop insurance will not cover replant if planted before 4/11? That's the date for Iowa anyway.

Maybe this was just an April fools joke???

Yeah Gary Same here on crop insurance but have couple thousand acres more of corn to go and lots of spraying and would rather take risk of replanting than not getting in. This was some real long season corn and thought it would be worth taking the gamble. It was perfect planting. Spose to be few more real warm days in next week and soil temp was decent.

Everyone here in southern MN is resisting the urge,so far.

Just too early for corn, plain and simple.

wondering what day varieties you all are putting in, south of me and here in MN. Did all 95 day last year, did good for the cool short season we had. Doing 95,92, 85 this year. With the warm temps and possibly longer warmer growing season, I am pondering adding some 99-101 day, but dont know if it really would yeild or hld up any beter than the shorter stuff. Soybeans I had orders everything from maturity ig .5-1.4. Hoe 1.4 isnt too late for me here(east a smidgeon from St Cloud)

Corn we put in here was 120 day. We will probably go back to spraying for week or so before we plant anymore now. Got all the bugs out of planter anyway. Took four and half hours to plant 25 acres and are season average for last year wa 26.4 acres per hour. Lots of messing around with things.

NortEast NE they are still combining in some fields. Just saw one drive past and a tractor and 600 Bushelwagon behind it. Can you pull a disk with a combine and save a step? LOL. The warm weather sure is welcome though isn't it?

Way too early for corn here, but I did see some oats going in. If the weather cooperates, we're gonna try to get our oats in by next weekend.
