how much should I charge?

Just curious what do you guys charge for tractor work by the hour. I have a good friend and several neighbors in the community that want some odd jobs done with my tractor. For example, my friend has had me redo his two shops and mile long home driveways. All intel putting my tractor on my trailer and trucking it at least 10-15 miles one way to get the job done.So far I have racked up 10 1/2 hrs of seat time. I was thinking for the small gardens just pricing a job for the little ole ladies but for him I think by the hour is the way to go. I was thinking about $25-$30 per hour to cover my time, fuel, equipment use and mileage. Does that seem fair for me and him to you guys? My dad always worked by the garden. I plowed snow for him on several occasions this winter and although I was helping him out, I feel I didn't get paid enough. Thanks for the opinions.

If I need to use my Ford 1720 tractor w/loader for a job Its $100 to move it to the job, plus $75.00 per hour to use it. If I cant get that, the tractor stays home, not to mention the truck and trailer use.

Depends a lot on the tractor size, what the competition charges, and how bad you want the job. Its 60.00 an hour with a 4 hour minimum for me and anything, except maybe the atv. If I bring equipment thats extra. Skidloader is 70.00 with an attachment unless its the backhoe, thats 10.00 an hour more. Little dozer is 85.00, bigger one is 100.00. Im not being overrun with work but I am busier than I want to be.

price sometimes depends on attitude...i help some folks for expenses or less...others that think they can buy whatever they need whenever they need it pay more...lots more ;)

basically i try and get 50 an hour for me,60 horse tractor with loader and whatever implement needed.

dozer is 65 an hour with 4 hour minimum if i have to haul it.

to many variables to get real close, i only do one off farm tractor job, i charge 30 per hour, but they supply gas,and i use their brush hog, i have a ford jubilee tractor, so its econimical to run,the job is close enough to me that i can drive the tractor to the job as fast as i can load it and haul it, the mowing job takes 8 to 9 hrs, i dont want to get too many jobs, as i have a truck to run as well and this small hobby farm, so im not in need of any more projects, [ unless its another tractor]

Jay, I guess things are different in New York than here in North Central Texas. You would not get any work at your price of 75 dollars per hour for a Ford 1720. I hire a professional on a Cat D-6 or a large Cat track loader (I think it was a 963) for 125 per hour actually worked on my farm, with no moving in or out charges. That machine can do more in 1 hour than a 1720 can do in a day. Tom

I get $100 per hour for a D5 cat or a D6 cat dozer (not much difference), $70 per hour for a 70hp backhoe (a good operator can do a lot of work in an hour with a good backhoe), and I do scraper work by the yard of material moved.

farm tractor work I usually trade planting some food plots for rental ground. two nieghbors actually lease me ground (instead of the big farmer nearby) because I plant a couple food plots for them each year. The big farmer didn't want to mess with two acres of food plots...oh well...it cost him gaining 250 acres more ground, lol.

I'd set my prices based on several things.
1) how good of friend
2) is help a 2 way street
3) do you want to be called again (this could be yes or no)
4) what do I really need to cover expenses
5) is the beer good and how well will they feed me (and maybe my family)
You gotta know.

Dave

First I want to say I donate a lot of my work to churches and other non - profits. I grade gravel driveways and finish grade dirt for extra money. I charge $75 a hour as soon as I leave my driveway to go to the job. I can get a lot of work done in a hour cause I can run about 8 - 10 mph grading. I am checking in to insurance right now.

Yep, things are different up here, you wouldent believe what some of the high end accounts will pay for. Even a mini excavator can bring big bucks. I seen one guy have have 96" inch diameter root ball trees spaded into his place, $$$$ big bucks.
