Which is better,

Sherman Williams automotive

or

Napa (PPG??? or Martin Seymor??).

The SW guys seem to be knowledgeable, not sure about the NAPA guys.

Thanks

I went through Sherwin Williams factory automotive paint school once. Good school. We spent two full days just on color matching.

I understand all the paint reps are required to attend it.

But, the Napa information is only as good as the counter guy is. If he is helpful he will get the right information for you and if he is lazy, then you get crap for help. Just my experience with them.

You forgot Dupont. The Dupont's are big in Delaware they put a lot of money into their economy. They don't have any sales tax. The state of Maryland has roadrunners out stopping vehicles with MD tages coming back into MD to see if they purchased any items.

They stopped my nephew that had a chair in the truck. Wanted to know where it was purchased. He told them he had it repaired which he did under warranty. He had the papers too. They left and he didn't tell he bought it new in DE. Here's some wheels off my lawn trailer and I used Martin Senour's acrylic enamel on them. I didn't have any hardener so I painted them without it. Hal
PS: I've had that paint in the basement since 1980. Didn't have any dry skin in the paint. Got shiny too.

I forgot the pic.Hal

You got that right!

I've been shooting a lot of Omni doing body work lately. It's good stuff and I'm used to it. A couple of weeks ago I tried a different store because it's five miles closer than where I've been buying my paint.

I asked for a half gallon of Chevy pickup Code 12 white in Omni base. I didn't catch it till I got to my shop, but the guy mixed Code 11 white. Then when I took it back, he tried to argue that whites were all the same, anyway. Thankfully I'd had the foresight to take color chips so I could show him that even though they were both white, they were nowhere near the same color.

I'll gladly drive the extra 5 miles to my original place. They even found the original formula for a 1958 Edsel for me once.

Forgot about DuPont paints. We have lots of Napa's and a SW automotive store (not too many around). Dad worked for DuPont for 21 years, I spent 3 summers there (Seaford Nylon plant) mum and brother worked there too. DuPont was/is bad for cutting the meat out of the company and leaving the fat (as are most US companies) so dad was "retired" early. Still has stock in DuPont and some pension.

I don't know how they are to work for now, but one of my classmate's went to work for them in 1951 and he was in in the Air Force along with my brother for 4 years and he returned to Dupont's until he retired in the late 1980's. If you were a Chemistry major in college they would be after you. They got wealthy from the US Government during WWI for making explosives for the war effort. They seldom marry outside the family. The Sharp family was involed with them on explosives. They had a summer home on the Sasafras River. Had a large building where they could house their yatchs even had a winch to pull them out of the water. Hal
PS: They had a family that took care of the home and they put that family's son through the University of Delaware and later law school. He was a classmate of my wife.

I buy all my Auto Paint such as Acrylic Enamel etc. from www.paintforcars.com /Trinity 1945 which is an on line supplier. I Like the quality, being able to buy on line and especially the price. However they do not handle Farm Equipment colors to my knowledge.Too bad as they do a great job of supplying what I have wanted to date. Right now I am getting ready to repaint my 1995 Rexall Motor Home.and I will use Trinitys Primer,Acrylic enamel,Hardener etc for this job.

INCASE, Sherwin Williams produces Martin Senior, Rodgers, and Acme. All the same product, (different label) very good quality. Have used (and still use SW products) and liked product. Many years ago I was involved in a name recognition study for SW.

Goose, code twelve is like clean new fallen snow and code 11 looks like the neighbors dog tinted it. Hopefully the clown at the paint store had to agree with you when you showed him the chips.
