When i pull a sparkplug wire and hold a gap from the dist.cap the miss goes away.I know this has been discussed many times as to the problem but i cant seem to find the forums on this problem.Could you guys help me out AGAIN.May be i can remember this time.
Thanks again,

Holding the wire back from the plug makes a home-made "spark intensifier" that will fire a "dirty" sparkplug or compensate (sort of) for a weak coil.

It will also fire a lean mixture better.

So the possibilities are...

bad sparkplug

weak spark

lean mixture (if only one cylinder of a multi-cylinder engine this could be from a leaky intake gasket or valve problem.)
Spark intensifiers

Champion's "EZ Start" sparkplugs for outdoor power equipment have a "booster gap" built in.

Sounds like the same principal to me!

Now I gotta say, Bob, it takes a real "purist" to make the principle/principal distinction. I'll bet we would have just let it sliiiide right on by. . . LOL

Bob's from the land of good schools and low unemployment, so he knows some of us will hold him to a higher standard.
