I have a 1975 Ford 3000 tractor. The steering
has a lot of slack in it. I need to know how to
adjust this out.

Manual or power steering?
Start by checking all your tie rod ends to see how loose they are. Replace as required.
Lift the front end off the ground.
Then try adjusting the steering sectors in your steering box. Do the back one first. Loosen the lock nut and tighten the screw as you turn the wheel lock to lock. Not too tight or it will bind. Then retighten the lock nut.
Then do the front sector the same way.
Suggest you purchase a manual for your tractor.
An I&T FO-31 is about $30 from this site. Worth every penny.
