For some reaon I could not post on the thread
Mine was a F-30 Farmall in 1950. It had been souped up to plow in the Dakota. It could snake a four bottom plow. I bought it to pull a forage chopper. First it had 1/4 inch ground off of the head, next was added high compression pistons. now ad a Heisler govenor & manifold. It better start on the first pull on the crank. It was a real work horse but was a brute to operate.
Steering wheel could break a thumb real easy. Chopped a lot of Alfalfa Silage.

Boy, that's a tough toss up. Let's see there was the 880 Oliver diesel that wouldn't start below 50 degrees, no block heater - just that lower radiator hose thing, it had the steel pan seat, power traction hitch, and no power steering. Hydraulic levers between your legs in your way when you want to turn around, or the fact that it had dual remotes but one was for the 3pt hitch. Or the 1850 Oliver gas that had carb issues, distributor issues, hydra power issues, a $108 thermostat, the steering sucked, the hydraulic controls sucked, the the operator platform layout sucked, the mechanical brakes sucked. Although the exhaust manifold on the 1850 used to glow the neat looking red at night. Hmm it's a tough toss up between those two. Funny, it's the only two Oliver tractors I've owned.

An Oliver 70 we had when I was a kid. It wasn't a bad running tractor--if you could ever get the #$%^&$%^# thing started.

If you ever killed it out in the field, you may as well have found a shade tree for an hour.

8n and 9n ford. I know there are people that like them but i absolutely hate them. could get more work done with a pickup w/traction tires and not have to smell exhaust all day long. To me they are a oversized four wheeler.

Get a Super M instead- then you"d have a electric starter to go with the power. A 560D would be another better choice- power and diesel fuel, plenty more parts around than pre-war F30. F30 might be called grandpaw for a 560, father of M. As for a sort of bad tractor? My nominy is a JD60 brother had- hard starting, poor electric charge, one cylinder wouldn"t idle half the time, hydraulic leaks, tranny pop out of gear a few times, clutch troubles. To be fair to tractor -brother was too drunk a lot of times to do required maintenance or check oil and radiator. RN

Got a 880 Oliver diesel that starts every other day to put hay out. Don't really have to use ether but I give it a little shot if it is 20 degrees or below. Course it no longer has a Oliver starter.

Got aSUPER M;and a 706;and a826hydro;and a1256,among others.Sold the 560 and the F20.Got 4 F12s,never owned an F30.

The worst tractor I own is a Fergusen T0-30. The 3-pt won't stay up with the clutch disengaged, the brakes are a joke, I smell like exhaust after running it, and if I pull more than a dead cat with it the front end comes off the ground.
