a interesting use for a old mixer

the post below reminded me of another use for old cement mixers, a guy down the valley bought him a 1955 chevy cement mixer truck, the truck itself was shot,[wear and parts salvaged to keep others running]but the mixer was still intact and he made a hydraulic motor mounting to drive the chain driven body , probably had a 4 or 5 yd mixer body it is pretty small by todays standards and on a single axle truck, he plumbed the hydraulic lines off a 4020 john deere into it and used it to mix adobe mud for adobe bricks, built his whole new house and 2 outbuildings with that rig,

When I was a kid, we used one to knock the hulls off walnuts. Threw a bunch of them in the mixer with some rocks and let her run. Prior to that we had dumped them in the driveway and ran over them. The mixer trick worked pretty well.

When I was a kid my father had a physical fitness program for me every summer mixing concrete or mortar with one of those, for some project he was working on. Of course the shoveling into the mixer couldn't start until we had shoveled a load of sand into a dump truck that he had borrowed.

My grandfather built an adobe house in Carmichael, CA in the 30's he used the grandkids to mix the Adobe cheaper if you have a lot of them. The house is still standing and is worth around $500,000 he built it for $1000.

They also make a good seed treater: not the healthiest way to do it, but people didn't used to let that stop them.

Also works good to knock slag off of small weldments if you have a lot of them. Just park it FAR from where you plan on being while it's running. It is NOISY.

Here, one year, they used a truck mixer to stir up raffle tickets before drawing the winning ticket for a new car. A co-worker of mine won it that particular year.

I never did enter as you had to be present to win. December cold and they would keep you standing around for hours before the drawing.

I had to make hundreds of L brackets for a large hog unit. Something for the gestation crates. After I had them built I put them in an old mixer like that and let them tumble for a few hours to knock the sharp saw edges smooth so pigs would not get cut.

I a small concrete mixer last fall to wash up a bunch of shop rags. It worked pretty decent.

Local elevator uses one to mix fertilizer before putting it in a wagon or fertilizer buggy.

A place that takes in all the animal hides and tans them for leather used one with salt brine for treating the hides. It was really rusted and they ended up putting in 2 concrete pits for doing it. Dave

Occasionally mine got used for mixing cement. Bought it for mixing animal premixes of my own design. Now I have a tractor gas tank bracket on it, and use it to rotate tanks for cleaning.

I don,t know of all the uses but if anyone wants one that is super nice I have one for sale.Probably about a 6 or 8 yrd unit powred by 4 cyl ford engine .. Will sell cheap mounted on an ih truck that runs.aNYBODY INTRESTED GIVE ME A TICK FOR PHOTOS.
