If you get The SPIKE Channel on your TV, they had some info about soda blasting today. They typically run the same show tomorrow.

It is not very aggressive. It was used in the printing industry to clean ink metering rolls. the other thing, more important than it is with sandblasting. KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY. Soda will cake up very easily.

Hi Mark, It's in the 70's here in MD should hit 76 on Sunday. I may plow garden if the ground is dry enough. Hal
PS: I was spraying epoxy primer today. One of my former co-worker's sand blasted the rims on my lawn cart and I primed them. Hope to spray some surfacer and acrylic enamel tomorrow. Rain coming in Sunday night.

Don't know if there's a connection, but a customer of mine soda blasted a fender before bringing it to my shop to be primed, painted, and installed on his pickup.

I shot primer/surfacer on it, and when it dried it let go from the fender. I blew 3/4 of the primer off with an air hose. I had to work the fender over with metal etch before anything would stick to it. I never have had that experience with something that's been sandblasted. I haven't had a chance to talk to my customer to see if he did anything besides soda blasting.

If anyone can shed any light on this, I'm all ears.

I've done some small parts with soda, and a small handheld blaster. It does "OK" with what I was doing, and what I was using. I've done some spark plugs, that I needed to clean and re-use until the new one's came in ('48 Chevy) and it cleaned the carbon off real fast, and made a cleaner looking plug (almost like a new one) than the spark plug cleaners do with their media. I have used it to clean some of the parts that are galvanized and had some rust showing. These were brackets for things like the w/s washer jar, w/s wiper motor and so on. It is much finer, and because of that, I believe it leaves a natural new look to the parts. It also leaves some material behind, and needs to be cleaned off, if anything is to be applied to the surface, such as the primer and paint as noted in another post. Using the handheld blaster, and about 140 lbs of air, I could hold the part in my hand without a glove on, and not have my hand assaulted like with sand or other media (when you forget a glove etc). I do feel it takes a good bit longer to strip something, but the surface finish is nicer looking.

THANKS for replying .. I did find { like you said an others it does that longer , but it doesn't harm the surface }

a friend and I talked to several refinishing guys at the SEMA show in 'Vegas a couple years back... most agreed that a soda blasted finish was too slick to paint... they preferred black beauty for large parts and would tolerate glass bead for the cabinet. I'm no expert on the subject, but definitely listened carefully to what they had to say. ...D

Hey guys, soda is great at removing the paint dirt and grime. It does leave the surface smooth but thats one of the advantages, it doesn't harm the metal like other medias. It doesn't create heat either so no warpping. You do need to make sure it is all removed before painting or as said above primer will not stick. One way is to wash it down with water real good. Another way os to use After Blast Solutions sold at atozsodablasting.com, either way you must get it off first. Check out this site, timstractors.com. He has all his soda blasted. Anyway, soda is great for paint removal.
