I have a 1939 ford 9n tractor that I have replaced the plugs, points, condensr, coil, plug wires and distributor cap and rotor and I still am not getting any fire to the plugs. Any suggestions on what the problem could be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help you might give me.

Make sure your points are gapped correctly(0.015") and you have voltage at each of the terminals in the primary ignition circuit when the key is on.

The points are set correctly and I have fire to the top of the coil.could it be the way that the points are attached to the base part of the points'

Well if you have voltage to the top of the coil I'd bet you have the condenser wire or some other part shorted out in side of the distributor which is very easy to do. I would pull it back off and double check all connections in the distributor and also check that you have the 0.015 on ALL lobes

have you verified the camshaft is turning??? it makes the distributor shaft spin...prob need a small mechanics mirror unless you pull the fan.

other than that i'd agree with everybody else AND possibly a bad NEW condensor...cant tell you how many times i've had bad ones out of the box.

Might need to stretch the little pigtail wire out on the bottom of the coil, so it makes contact with the distributor better.

Remove the dist and with a VOM make sure you have continutiy thru the coil and dist with the points closed, and no continuity to ground with the points open. That should narrow it down for you.

Are the spring straps on the points supposed to ground to the base plate of the points are should there be fiber washer between the straps and the base plate of the points. Thanks for your help.
