We have a few dozen onions from last year's unharvested crop that
are starting to show green (Central Ohio). Onions are golf ball to
tennis ball sized. Are they OK to eat. What happens if I just let
them grow?

If you just let them grow, they'll send up a flower stalk and try to make seeds. They're biennials.

Best way to find out if they are good is to pull one or two up and taste. I'm sure the greens are just fine, but the bulb might be lackluster.

usually the bulb itself gets soft and a scallion grows from the center of it . the scallion or green onion, will be good to eat but eat it because it wont grow into a big onoin it would go to seed.
