regulations going too far ??

I believe most farmer children should be able to drive such vehicles if they were taught the value of common sense.

Most have driven bigger machinery than most non farming individuals.
As far as delivering a trailer load of cattle.with the benefit of an adult driver with them a couple times should be able to handle it just fine.

I got a farm license at age 14 and could drive anything I wanted to on the road, except at night. Most farmers depend on the kids helping out this way. Some lawmaker has to much time on his hands i guess

A few years ago state troopers in ny were ticketing farmers pulling wagons with a pick up truck. Said it had to have brakes, lights, license, inspection like any other trailer. If pulled by a tractor it morphed into a farm implement, none of the above needed. New regs prohibit burning grass or crop residue. I have been known to burn hay in the windrow that got too much rain and turned moldy rather than waste my time baling it.
Can't swing a dead cat anymore without breaking a law.

ust one more in an incredibly long list of examples of how the FEDS collect your tax money & blackmail your state to get a little of it back. Incredible!!

I'm glad to hear all the drug criminals and murderers are off the streets. Now the police can work on getting the teenagers that want to work off the road. What a great state.

Let's pick on the farmers some more. IDIOTS

I understand both sides but I think the government should just shut the *ell up and work on the real problems of society like.....Soc. security, cutting taxes, cutting welfare, etc.

But I agree that ALL kids under 18 should be on a restricted license. In the state of Michigan I am told that no more then 2 teens can be in the car without an adult/parent, kids cant drive past 11pm (or close to that time), who knows this may help reduce teen pregnancys? A lot has changed since I got my drivers license in 1984. I saw a lot of accidents when I was younger and it helped wise me up.

Yep, once the mighty government solves the underaged workers driving problem it will be a regular Utopia.

Better watch the dead cat reference mj, the PETA people will be after you and we'll have to spend millions in court and on rehab for you.

A friend of mine, age in the mid 80 range, drove school bus at age 14, and was 100% legal.

I'm pretty sure I wasn't mature enough at that age, I probably wasn't mature enough to even ride on a bus at that age.

I hauled grain a mile and a half to the elevator with an old farm truck when I was 12. Of course, the typical farm truck in those days only held a hundred bushels or so.

The elevator had gas pumps, and I remember once I stopped to put five gallons of gas in that old beater. Five gallons would have been 92 cents, so I made it simple and put an even dollars worth in.

Somebody's kid was driving somewhere and did have a wreck. That is what encouraged the politician to make a name for himself.
Just prior to the wreck the kid and parent would have sworn they were being safe, responsable and capable.

The law may get changed, but as it stands now(Farm Vehicles)means anything, tractors or anything towing anything.ON or off the road.

A few years back, I was gassing up my driver ed car at the local gas station after class. Heard a rumbling and rattling pull up to the next pump. Was a huge 4wdPU pulling even a hugher gravity box wagon..... driven by my unlicensed student from the morning drive. Where will it end?

In Iowa, if you leave a dead pig or cow in the open waiting on the rendering truck, the county will be after you big time. Last week, I was down to the backside of the local county park and found probably 50 dead deer in a pile. When I asked they said those were roadkill picked up by the county and state DOT. I said why not pay for rendering and they said we can't afford that!Besides, we're "giving them back to nature".

Seems nature can't take a pig or a cow. I guess I don't mind rules near as much if the rulemakers have to follow them too.

Ya,I started driving tractor when I was 8 or 9.
My grandpa had cataracts and couldnt see very well so I would drive him. Started that when I was 14. Got a learners permit when I was 151/2.

With every thing going on in the world these days it would be funny if it was not so sad the "problems" our government spends it's time and our money "fixing".

Not to mention the fact most them Farm Kids were driving tractors and working around equipment long before they could legally drive on the road. Most of them more than likely handle a big pickup truck and trailer better than alot of the adults that are able to legally drive them.

That is so stupid, If the state of PA, would stop writing checks for stupid stuff and learn to control there spending they would not have to show there IGNORANCE.BUT IOWA is all most the same way showing there IGNORANTS on spinding money.

It doesn't appear to be just PA, it's the FEDS. As for the OP subject, Yup, I agree that government is regulating the life out of us. Politicians think they have an answer for everything.

Just last week went to a township mtg where they began discussions on a "clear-cutting" ordinance. Seems some guy who owned 80 acres of woods hired a company to clear cut it. Probably sold the lumber and wood chips to make some money. Well, residents complained that it "looked terrible". So now, the township wants to write an ordinance to prevent it. I spoke up and said if the neighbors liked the trees so much, they should have bought the property off of the guy. One of the twp board members DID ask if this was still America and if we still had any rights left as property owners.

As for the driving regulations, I guess they're trying to prevent an accident that MAY happen without considering the hardship that their solution will cause. If they're so concerned about accidents on our roads, why not just ban ALL vehicles from ALL roads? That would be a surefire way to prevent vehicle deaths. LOL.

My dad had me hauling manure down the road when I was maybe 8 or so. Started driving tractors when I was 5. Now I look at my oldest nephew who's 5 now and wonder what the heck they were thinking. I must have been a little more mature for my age or something...

I know I started running the chopper in the fall when doing corn when I was maybe 13 or 14. Been doing it ever since. Drove baling hay with Dad on the wagon starting at 6 or 7.
