This question has probably been asked dozens of times in the past. But I have never had satellite TV and was wondering which you guys find to be the best and cheapest and if you have to pay for local stations. I am think either Direct TV or Dish????
Thanks in advance

i got Dish Network and been happy with it for almost 10 years...prices been going up along with everything else.
i dont have local channels but i think they are a extra 5 bux a month.

I've never had Dish, but Direct for 14 years straight. They NEVER offer anything for being a loyal customer. At most they'll give you a little extra package free for 3 months but you must remember to cancel or they'll add it to your bill. Direct support is good in that you can easily speak with a live person whenever needed, & they all seem to speak english.

Go with Dish. I have had Direct TV for about six months. Biggest mistake I ever made. Did not get what they said I would. Then their top on the line package shows up on my bill. Took me four months to get rid of it. I did not order it even though they said I did. Told me no one else but me could have ordered it. I told them I am the only one in the house and I know I didn't order it. When my contract runs out I will be going to Dish.

Dish includes the Fox regional sports channels in their medium package, Direct does not (but company folks will tell you they do- it was the contract installer who wised me up after wife decided to change. That was a deal-breaker for me). For example, Seattle Mariners are on Fox Sports Northwest, I suspect your area major league broadcasts are on a Fox regional sports channel as well.

Have had National Programming Service for a looooooooooong time; neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor gloom of night, etc will disrupt the signal; high winds i.e. in excess of 40 mph may cause the tv to flicker. Used Turner Vision before that, but would get a price increase 3 or 4 times a year.

Had Direct, went to Dish, back to Direct. Don't see any real difference, we go with the best price offered at the time.

We started out with Direct and it worked great, we had no complaints, except for the fact that they did not carry our local stations in this area. They provided the major networks, but they were out of state stations like Chicago or New York.

We switched to Dish just because they carry our local stations in this area (NW Iowa). That's the only reason why we changed. Otherwise the service appears to be the same.

We went with Dish because of the Christian programming.... also some benefits if you get others to order Dish...they'll knock some off your bill. I'm happy with the HD stations they offer.. easy to program the remote.

i've bounced between both dish and direct multiple times, the only difference i've found is in order to get RFD with dish you have to order an addition channel package, and direct has RFD with a basic package. tuesdays at 5pm central time is Machinery of the past and at 530 is tractor pulling. and either wednesday or thursday is classic tractors at 200pm and then another episode at 330.

Directv has the regional sports networks with the basic "choice" package. The only reason you might not get your region is if you do not have the receiver connected to a phone line.
I don't know where you are in Washington, but I put in a Zip Code for Spokane, and Fox Sports Northwest is included in all packages....
Here in New York, I get three sports networks, YES, SNY, MSG.....no extra charge. But if the phone line gets unhooked, they work for a little while, then go poof till it is connected again.
Your installer was wrong, in my opinion.!

Dish has the worst attitude and customer service I have ever dealt with. Had more than one no show on appointments. No one you talk to is in the US. They barley speak English. Lost service because the original installer forgot to tighten the bolts on the antenna. Then they tried to charge me to fix it until their own installer admitted it was their fault.

Direct so far has been fine.

We have had better service from Direct. They installed a new reciever for the HD set no chatge for reciever or installation just the monthly fee for reciever.
