The next door neighbor's place was raided last night. And they were the good neighbors as neighbors go,not among those in the local "medical marijuana" trade.

Seems their middle daughter's husband had divorced her because she was fooling around with some guy she worked with at WalMart. The claim is that she didn't know, but the new stud was wanted on a felony warrant out of Florida. I guess somebody knew though, and knew they were at her parents house last night and called the cops.

About 4 or 5 patrol cars rolled in and he got to go for a ride in a real police car.

Now if they'd just do that with the local drug gang.

Selling this place is looking like a better idea all the time!

No,but when you see that many local cop cars in one place, you have to think a film crew must be riding along. Used to be a pretty quiet rural community, but it's sure gone to hell.

I'm ready to get out of Michigan, how bout you?

What part of Michigan are you in? Im near Marine City. Yea its getting bad, with the forclosures alot of the citidiots are leaving and that is a good thing. You cant do anything anymore without upsetting someone. When I grew up on this road we knew everyone, it was nothing when riding you bike on the road and stop a get a drink from the neighbors garden hose. Now I dont know hardly anyone.

Just this morning, fella down the road says the township gave him a blight notice for his tractors and farm machinery. He has alot of stuff out,..but its not bad, now they are getting picky.

It's getting rough all over in rural areas in both Canada and the US. Earlier this week in the next township a opp officer pulled over a guy on a back road and got shot point blank in the head. The cop never had a chance. The guy who did it was a 70 year old retired farmer who had marital issues. The other cops took him out down the road in a ditch and he just died yesterday. It leaves a very unsettled feeling because it wasn't that long ago you could leave your house unlocked here. What's next?

I'm up here in Montcalm County. About 15 miles north of Ionia.

You nailed it. It's all the outsiders causing no end of trouble. I live in the house that I grew up in. Used to be nothing but aunts, uncles, cousins and friends of a like mind in the whole neighborhood. Now there are so many feuds going on you don't even know who to be seen talking to. Even at the coffee shop, one bunch comes in,another walks out. That's for the ones who even still go there at all. Some just avoid the whole conflict all together. I try,but the more I stay home and mind my own business, the more I get dragged through the mud. If you're not out there running your mouth, siding with SOMEBODY,EVERYBODY thinks you're an azzhole.
It ain't just cabin fever either, just the whole neighborhood going to hell.
I'm sick of it all. West Tennessee is looking better all the time. Wouldn't be so bad if I WANTED to be a hermit, but I'm a sociable kind of guy and want to be with people and be a good neighbor. You just don't dare poke your nose out the door anymore.

i think you just said what the problem is with this country, these scummy people and all the jobs and foreclosures.............WAL-MART

For what it's worth,at least some folks had SOMEWHERE to go to work after the worlds largest refridgerator factory closed and went to Mexico.

So what kinda donuts did they use to bait that many cops? I have alot of cop friends, and that type of coment often just belows out of my mouth when I least expect it to.

When it comes to drugs, we all haven't a clue, and if you do know of a few facts, you do not know what cops you dare discuss it with. To many accidents, fire, etc can just some how happen to you.

If you're from Michigan, you're gonna stand out from the crowd in west Tennessee. Not being critical of you at all, but you may not be able to communicate. They don't speak Michigan, and you don't speak Tennessee, if you know what I mean.

Grand Rapids has had a lot of tool and die and pattern shop closures also. Muskegon's employment went South in the 50's. Nowhere to run now.

Well....all of the wife's family are in Kentucky and Virginia. Suppose she can get me in the door?
We vacation on the lake in east Tennessee quite often and ain't been shot over there yet.

Michigan has a zero sum economy, we don't make anything anymore, we are trying to survive performing services for each other. The new middle class in Michigan are the people collecting pensions and/or SS. Wages are being hammered down, the current generation of workers are making less than the retirees. BTW, who is gonna buy all these big houses?

rr: PJH made a point to be seriously considered: what might be called culture clash is something that exists, and that isn't meant to run down anyone's culture...
If you've fit in easily with your wife's people, that's a big plus...
On the other hand, you may not ever be really accepted as one of the locals, simply because neither you nor your ancestors were born there (nor does this mean you'll ever notice any real difference) (if any were, you may be home free as a returning son, so to speak)...
If the Civ...oops: War Between The States comes up, your people were never involved.
This isn't meant to be negative towards anyone, it's just the way things/people are...
Incidentally, my people are from MI and NEB; my wife's people from Shreveport. (My people were immigrunts who came after theWar)...
Best wishes if you do make the move.

Good news - you have a translater :)

They sometimes view us northerners with suspicion, and for good reason I suppose.

I worked with a guy from Kentucky - he went "down" home every weekend. One day I was looking at a map and discovered that his home in Kentucky was north in latitude from where we were working in Illinois. It broke his heart. . .

Maybe I just look the part or it's because I feel like I'm at home when I'm anywhere in the south, but we were at Cumberland Falls in eastern Kentucky one time. Some tourist came up to me and asked me if I worked there?
Could be the bibs and the boots instead of shorts and sneekers when I travel, but even when the inlaws are with us,folks tend to strike up a conversation with me before they do with them.

Might help me out too, that the Swedes that bore my genes didn't come here til 1881.

Nobody. There's a guy who comes in to the coffee shop who moved here from Indiana a few years ago, bought a nice place. Now he's complaining that he can't even sell the place to leave. Don't know what to tell him. I don't have a job for him.

Since the cops are taught to treat EVERYONE as a criminal, instead of as a citzen, quite possibly the cop got what he .......

It's going to get worse, especially since EVERY veteran, believer, gun owner, and critic of this administration has been labeled as a potential domestic terrorista.

thats walmart for ya, all jobs to china, mexico and all we have to show for it are 500,000 sq ft freakshows in every town. But hey, lets keeping buying from them.

This cop was actually a pretty good guy. Was a deacon in his church, coached kids hockey and soccer as well he also hunted. He never had a chance to even draw his gun. The police around here are generally pretty good because they are so restricted in what they can and can't do anymore. So far this year 2 have had their licences pulled the same as everybody else so things so far seem fare.

Actually, I think he'd fit in quite well here in West Tennessee; we have no trouble communicating on YT. Just gotta know the difference between y'all and all y'all. And.........just to be picky, it's West Tennessee, not west :>). Culturally, musically, politically, crops grown, etc, there's often a big difference between East, Middle and West Tennessee; almost 3 different states.

There are crimes and problems no matter where you go. If you think only Michigan has problems they your crazy.

But at the same time I'm glad I live UP here. I know my neighbors and leave my front door unlocked, and don't even think twice. When the sheriff shows up at somebodies house its usually because he gets there before the ambulance.

Sorry thurlow - I meant to capitalize the word "West". In Illinois, we're careful to capitalize "Southern" so folks hopefully won't think we're from Chicago. Two unofficial states here, too.

I've gotta pay jm a visit as soon as I can get down there. He says he thinks he can help me out.
