My kids bumped into this on youtube, a video with lots of pics of Australian "road train" trucking. Never saw anything like it! Would love to get a view of some of those in person.

Here's the link if I got it right.
Australian Road Train

Kind of wild I have to agree. The ones that are really mind blowing are the road trains that carry ore between a mine and the processing place in Australia. They are something like 3/4 to 1 mile long. They travel at nearly 80 and watch out because they have the right of way (I wonder why????). Discovery did a show on them years ago and I still have the image of the two road trains passing each other about 8-10 feet apart. What a dust cloud they made.

Speed channel just had a show on them Australian road trains. It's on their series called Dangerous Drives I believe. They rerun their shows alot. I watched it and it was good.

My brother told about talking with a guy who drove one of those with the owner for a while.

Story that sticks in my mind is the owner was in the bunk and the friend slowed down for a herd of sheep on the road. Owner woke up and asked what he was slowing down for. After the guy driving mentioned the sheep the owner told him this truck doesn't slow down for anything. Course that is what the Roo Bars are for also.

Worked with a fellow from Oz who drove those things. 3 guys in the cab, 4 cattle trailers, 90 mph steady truck was geared and powered for 115 tops. Once they loaded, no stops. They DID have right of way where they were. One guy was usually on the radio constantly talking to the cops about road conditions.
Graham said it was a job for a certain type of person and after a year, he was done with it. Mad Max with BIG trucks.

That was one of the most interesting things about the 12 days I spent in that country. The tripples you see in most of the vidio are much as our doubles here in the state they run on most class a roads. The true trains you see with 4,5, & 6 trailers operate on a truck only road that goes to the out back. Very remote more than you can even think..nothing like it in the states. Their safety record is about as trucking is here in the states. Most of the power units are us sourced KW,s Pets, & Navistar, WesternStar also . Lots of cummings and cat engine not many Detroit
