O/T Father Figures

Guess you"d call this a rant. Social workers decry the lack of a father figure in the lives of so many kids..lots of single moms out there.
But when you watch these TV shows, men are shown as incompetent fools or are gay. Same is true for their commercials. I have 30 some channels on my digital TV. Aside from news & sports there"s hardly anything worth watching. Guess that"s why I spend so much time here. BTW, am a greatgrandpa and spend as much time as possible with the little guy. Sorry for the rant.

Don, maby you should stop watching so much TV and spent time with your kids.

As I said, I spend as much time as possible with the 3 year old. We baby sit him 5 days a week. He isn't here at night when most of these programs are on.

I noticed the same thing, so what i did is this. got rid of the tv, dont go to movies, and whenever anyone says anything remotely anti male, i say, "you know, people can be fired for saying the same remark about women.

If you control the women, you control the men. People dont realize how much power women have, for instance, much of advertising is directed twords women, and children, because they have the most expendable income, even though many of them get their money from the male, or the government male (uncle sam).

Remember, liberated does not mean liberated from responsibilities, and integrity.

Sorry, Just My Rant:

Get rid of Food Stamps and Subsidized Housing and we probably wouldn't have to worry so much about children without fathers/parents!

Well, judging from the number of single moms out there, there are a lot of incompetent men out there. But on the other hand, a lot of young guys have no job, and little prospect of getting a decent job. Family incomes have been declining since the 70's. You think that there isn't any link between declining incomes and declining family's? Most of us older folks grew up in a time when everything was improving. For a lot of people, it's been going downhill for a long time.

Very easy to figure things out. When it takes $5 to get $1 out in food stamps and the gov people in office make 10 times more then they should and then get a life long pension for serving 4 years etc etc. And then a lot of wife's loose there husbands in places like Nam etc and they then in turn have no choice but to go on welfare and the cycle just keeps on and on. Not just one problem but many problems starting at the president working on down to the whole system and the people running the system. Like the other day My mom need some answers to a Medicare question and S.S and the person who answered the phone said they could not help you had to come in and we called another number and get the answer so lazy S.S. worker who gets payed for a job but passed the buck off on some one else

My question to you , Don , is this. This little boy is basically being raised by his Great Grandparents! What's that all about? There should be a set of parents and Grandparents ahead of you in the chain. Where are they? A Great Grandparent is better than no father figure at all but where is everybody else? Parenting started failing when "keeping up with the Jones'" required both parents work out and daycare! Maybe if people would put their kids before the boat , cottage at lake , motorcyles , snowmobiles , cruises , camper trailers and all other such "material" things , then the parents could do "parenting" the way it was meant to be done. We can blame the economy or any number of things but it comes down to parental "responsability"! BOTH OF THEM!

Someday when historians study the causes of the downfall of America the television will rank high as a contributing factor.

Some remarks were made about welfare folks and campers, boats etc.

In our area the folks making min wage, can't get 40 hrs, and no benifits. Seldom do they have medical insuranc, for the simple reason they can not afford it.

They have few pleasures, if any. Often they are behind in medical bills, heating bills are high because they live in older houses.

I hear the welfare thing mentioned alot on this web site, but in our area our biggest welfare list can be found (EWG farm subcities). Seldom called welfare, often called the (better farmers) are at the top of the list.

I could live a decent life with the amount of money the big guys spend on vacations, and the sweet toys they have.

Lets just face it, we grew up in good times, and we do not admit it. Most of the winners from our days got a break in life they do not point out to everyone. We often refer to it as hard work, two jobs, never spent a dime. We have all heard it, and probably said it before, some it's a fact --others probably only in our minds.

I'm very poor by most standards, but I sure as heck would not want to start over with these young kids graduating now days. The hardest working kids I ever hired were from poor families, the rich kids seemed to get the better jobs--less hard work--better paying.

Education payed off pretty good years ago, but alot of the educated kids are now flipping imitation beef at a fast food joint.

Over the years I"ve noticed the change in advertising. Years ago, the women were depicted as less than bright. Now, with many ad execs being women, the men are shown as the losers.

I noticed that too a while back.Get a DVD recorder or VCR or something and late at night is the only time good shows like Gunsmoke or war movies and stuff like that are on.Set them to record and watch them the next day.Also sometimes there is good stuff on the History channel,National Geographic,Science,Military channel and those thats really worth watching.Most of the stuff now thats any good on in the daytime is cartoons.Like South Park or King of the Hill.Even the news sucks now.Its like all these corporate people are so afraid of offending anybody that they just dont have much news except Massa 24/7 or some crap thats so disgusting you cant even watch it.Probably have a bunch of rich people who are too stupid to know what life is about running all of this and thats why its messed up.Seems to get worse all the time too.

You are exactly correct. It is part of the abundant agenda and is intentional. The feminization of the culture is part of the dumbing down process that makes the population easier to control through their propaganda.

Sadly it seems to be working as the looters (those who consume more than they produce) now outnumber the producers in this country, as proved by the last national election.

What man do any of you know that was given a fair shake in any custody case? Hoe many men fight tooth and nail to have a semi normal relationship with their kids only to be rebuffed by the court system and if they win in court only to have the mother ignore the court order without consequences.
All a woman has to do is tell a judge that the father yelled at her or slammed a door, and suddenly there is a stay away order and any parental rights go out the window. 38 years ago I got "rosie roundheels" knocked up and like an idiot I felt I had to do the right thing and marry her. While I was serving overseas with the Marines there was a steady parade of guys through my bedroom. At the divorce and custody hearing I was told that her actions were perfectly ok as long as nothing was done with the child in the same room. I was "awarded" 4 days a month with my boy and an endless string of support hearings for the next eighteen years. I would go to pick him up for my weekends and half the time he would be "sick" or at a friends or otherwise not available to me. When I contacted child services I was told that enforcement of an order of visitation was a civil matter and I would need to hire a lawyer and sue for enforcement, which I did and won although the new order was also ignored by her with no repercussions. I should also mention that she was collecting welfare and food stamps for this entire period and she is to this day.
When my boy was 14 she dropped him off on my doorstep because she could no longer handle him, After about a year of me being a total hard azz to him, he finally straightened out and today holds a full time job and is pastor of a local Baptist church.
So please whenever any of you her of a father getting the short end like this don"t sit back but write or call your state reps and fight for real equal rights in parenting.

A whole lot of the problem comes from the very sports that you find necessary to fulfill your life.

As long as the media portrays these semi-literate, bred for purpose, buffoons as role models and heroes worthy of emulation, the brain dead morons who worship them will continue to sink into the mire of stupidity.

Both the media and sports personalities (especially football players, coaches, or fans at any level), have at least two things in common, they are overpaid airheads.

When you have 'people' who cant pronounce a word with more than one syllable, or whose every other word is "Duh", or "you know", being worshipped, and their criminal acts overlooked, something is seriously wrong with society.

I have to reply to northeast iowa and the crock he is spewing. Life is all about choices and the consequences of the choices you make. If you made choices in your younger days such as not getting an education and preparing your self for the future, then you are now suffering the consequences for that choice. I put myself through school be working full time and taking out student loans. I busted my butt both at work and school and it has paid off for me. I have not gotten lucky and gotten any breaks like you said, I created my breaks through my hard work.I am so sick and tired of the looters out there putting the bad mouth on anyone that has suceeded in life as getting undeserved breaks or gotten lucky in life. I have had to move several times when there were no jobs where I lived, I changed careers a couple of time in my life and can do it again if necessary to be successful. One other thing northeast iowa, yea you could live a decent life on what I spend on my toys and vacations etc, but you need to realize that I worked for and earned everything that I have. I prepared in my formative years to be successful later in life. I passed up instant gratification earlier in life to reap the benefits now. Just like I said to start with life is full of choices, choose right and things will work out. Make the wrong choices and you need to be prepared to reap what you sow.

Government policy has been to pay women to have children without fathers. For every kid they have they get more money. Anyone else ever get a pay raise because they had children with their wife?

Mr Harry, I kinda was the devils buddy on this one, and you jumped in on it. I would like to congradulate you on your life, and never do I intentionaly step on any ones toes personaly.

If you noticed, I painted everyone with a wide brush, and that is not fair at all. However every person on welfare gets painted with this same wide brush. It is a human thing we got going on.

I do hire alot of poor kids, and for the most part, they are the best workers. That being said, there are many obsticles they face that others can't imagine, or care about.

A poor high school kid without a car, is screwed, unless some one can give him a ride. If he purchases a car, it isn't a good runner with low milage. Therefore when his car breaks down he is late for work, or looses his job. It could be simply because it needs tires, or a new battery.

They also don't have health insurance, so any sickness is dealt with by not going to the doctor. As a matter of fact, a good friend Wed was to take his wife to a specialist because of a leg problem. The infection has set in for over two months. They at the last moment, decided they could not afford the doctor bills, and are going to try to fix it themselves, home style.

I should point out she was born with a sack on her spinal cord, she has a education, but walking is almost imposible, yet I dare anyone to call her disabled to her face. Anyone want to suggest a solution, such as government help that we all know for a fact is as easy as just saying you want it?

No insurance company will take her on, we have discussed her health care problems several times, and it is a dead end street with the government. If she would not have gotten married, and had a child, perhaps it would have worked better. Any idea what it cost for her drugs every month, and one of those drugs ofset her birth control. They have one child that is a doll, and healthy. But still needs food etc.

The house they live in is owned by a wealthy farmer whos name is towards the top of the list on the EWG farm subcity web page. He is a wonderful guy, but buys a farm every other year. He will admit it is the stupid farm program that pays for it all.

If you have visited the web site, his name is listed as one recipiant, his wife is another, they have a LTD, a ______ Farms Inc. he has two daughters on the list that could not tell you what a tractor looks like, and two sons whose names are on the list. He had to return a couple of farms that were his dads, back to mom and dad because there was talk of a $250 thousand top suggested a few years ago.

The farm corperation pays for everything, including vacations, a air plane, boat, housing, vehickles, and the meat on the table, all tax free.

Just so you understand I don't blame him for harvesting the government checks.

I would like to also coment on how your good life was blessed in a way that you probably overlooked, or was unaware of. How did you get your values of hard work, and understanding the opertunities that lay ahead. Do you not thank your parents for helping you? Or did a wife or teacher, maybe a friend help you understand how important it was? Do you consider this a break in life, that some never got? Did you ever luck out and get a job that could have went to someone else? Did you ever realize that just in case all went down the tubes, mom and dad could have saved your skin?

Ive been divorces twice, and kept my head above water, I got water in my lungs several times, but somehow made it. Any idea of a willing to work with you wife is worth face value compared to maxing out credit cards...well get the picture here?

Don't take any of this personaly, I'm making general points. I count so many things as blessings that others don't realize.

I take advantage of my VA benifits, otherwise I have never taken a cent in a hand out, never filed for chapter 11 etc. The government does help pay for the street in front of my house, my sewer, water etc. from your tax dollars.

Pitch you da man! well said, but I will reasure you that unless someone on this board has wore your shoes, they will not simply get it.

I wore those shoes in a similar matter, not word for word as you described, but could put other guys names in ever sentence you wrote.

I won custody twenty years ago of a two year old son, mom was ten years younger, married her old school teacher--twenty three years older than her, and her first lover in high school. She had a wonderful fourteen year old daughter thay I raised 90% of the time while mom entertained the men in town, and totaly crashed our finances.

My story of winning a child in Iowa at the time (1 in a thousand odds probably), set me up as a volenteer shoulder to lean on 24/7 since then. I never got paid a cent, and never once ignored the phone or took it off the hook so I could sleep. I have been paid back a thousand fold with thank yous, and a few man hugs with tears.

Having a pair in a court room in Iowa in a custody battle is more painfull than a swift kick in the same pair.

Having no money for attorneys is like chopping off the same pair mentioned above, and it goes on and on with the unfairness.

The atorney that I had has used the abuse card in every case where he represents a woman.....hummmmm. He told me this himself, and any male judge will buy in to it

I watched in court, and never at least caught my wife flashing the judge, but my attorney asked me if I noticed anything, as he was given a few (lets just say) accidental views of her above average points of intrest to men. We have since concluded that the judge must have been a tinker bell, as my attorney told me ---(he is a friend) that if he got one more view, he was going to jump sides, and attack me in court. Although she always made it look inocent, she could turn any mans head, and used it for a job skill, or anything else she wanted from a man.

So you have heard this before? Yea -- we all know it isn't right, but ya know we have to just deal with it, thats the law. You have to get a attorney, we can't help you! No money for a attorney? Well if ya want to see your kid, you will get the money somehow! Now get the he!! out of my office, I got to mix myself a stif drink, and the game is gona be on in a few moments. And by the way? Does your wife still have that little white see through bathing suit I seen her wearing at the bar the other night?

One of the biggest problems in this country is boys raised by women, without fathers, no matter what the circumstances.

B- Fair point. The boys parents live with my son & his wife. The boys parents work & go to school. My son & his wife both work. So we are left to watch him. It is a real pleasure to do so.

Don S. I should have added that Jesus said he was going to divide a household. Luke 12: 51-53 So who can find fault with what Jesus said he was going to do. This is something that most churches I've attended down play. The image they prefer is family members getting along well. Not true if you read what Jesus said he was going to do... "as if one takes a sword and cuts famly members apart." Blood sweat and tears follow. Read it.. ag
