I have built engines and work on engines for decades but only have had 2 like this. My W speed patrol and my wife's Toyota both when I check the oil look like I changed it yesterday but the W it has been 3 plus years and the wife's car about 3 months ago so what is going on with them I have only seen this twice in over 100 engines

Non detergent oil..Not washing the black stuff off the enside of the engines.......

That, or them coons are sneaking in and changing the oil when ya ain't lookin

its puzzeling, for sure, i have one too, and its a big cat in my kw, most trucks 1000 miles after a oil change look like it needs another, this one currently has 5000 on the existing oil and i can still see the dipstick thru the oil, it usually wont go dark untill somewhere in the 8000 mile range i change it every 12, [15 gallons of oil and 2 filters] my cummins dodge on the other hand, which has been changed every 4000 since it left the showroom in '94 will turn dark in 1000 miles

I don't know about that either. For years we had cheap vehicles, and were just committed to keeping them running, usually would rent something to go out of town, etc. They used oil (1500 per quart was common) and the oil was always dirty. In 2003 we bought our first 'expensive' vehicle, and now all of the vehicles we own have clear oil. Newer engines? But that would not explain the old one you mentioned! My 4 cylinder detroit diesel that was in my FedEx truck was dirty the minute you started it up after an oil change!

Well the wife's car is a 1990 Toy and it has 190,000 mile on it. The oil I drained looked the same as the oil in it now. As for the oil in the W Speed patrol when I got that engine/tractor I pull the engine from a WD to put in the speed patrol but was told that engine had been rebuilt so that might be it just odd how those 2 do that and all the other ones I have do not and I use the same type oil in all of them

I was gonna say the same thing, but got beat to the punch line.

I did have one engine like that, then about 30K miles it started to get dark between the oil changes, just like every other engine I have ever owned.

Maybe you got lucky w/these two engines. Dont know.

Oil is better nowdays, air cleaners do a better job.Ive wondered the same thing myself. You might get another Toyota and the oil be black in a 1000 miles too.
