What wheatland/standard IH/McCormick preceded the W-9? Was there a diesel in that model? I remember seeing them in the mid'40s, but I never was around any of them in the rice fields, as we had JD Ds and the neighbor had Case Ls and LAs.
 
WD-40, I believe, was the first commercially available diesel farm wheel tractor, from the late '30's or early '40's. At least, that's what I was told by an old boy up in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, who had about 15 of them, in various states of repair/disrepair. Cast iron njector pump that a normal person could barely lift.

Aluminum? We don't need no stinkin' aluminum. . .
