The video shows how welding on a wheel with a mounted tire or adding heat with a torch to loosen lug nuts etc can raise the internal temperature and cause pyrolosis which rapidly raises the air pressure and causes the tire to blow up. It has even happened with the valve stem removed.
 
thanks for the link, i am glad that i saw that. i also tthought about removing the valve stem or unseating the tire from the rim........ glad i know better now.

I'll be honest, I guess I don't have a lick of common sense, I did not know about this, however knowing that a tire assembly is a pressurized vessel, I don't think I'd ever consider welding on it unless the tire was removed. You learn something everyday, thanks MSB for posting that, one of the best reasons to share information on a site like this, be safe out there !
 
I guess I was lucky as I cut the rivits from a donut spare with the tire on & the valve stem removed. I also welded the rim to the spokes on a front US B . But I was cooling it with water after welding a small bead. I never noticed any air coming from the valve stem.
