Trying to find out information about the following hit/miss IHC sinlge cylinder engine. Motor was found on a ranch & was used to pump water for cattle a remote locations.

Specification on the engine tag is as follows:
IHC
Type LA
1-1/2 to 2-1/2 HP
300-500 RPM
Serial #A37903

We are looking for possible vendors for parts and the year model of the motor. Head has a large exposed surface crack.

Thanks for any information that can be shared.

The link below has a serial # list, but I'm NOT sure how to interpret it. Hit and Miss can probably help you with the I.D., as well.

With a little digging on the "net", it looks like your engine may be a 1938 vintage.

The head crack is weldable, probably cracked to the outside and would leak water not compression.

It is a pretty common engine (several made). Many parts available through the advertizers in the Gas Engine Magazine, also many internet sources.

There is a check valve in the gas tank, it is likely gummed up. It must function before you will get the engine to run.

Another forum to check out would be Smokstak.com.
