1066 shifting getting a little harder.

Had this thing set where it would shift with two fingers like tractor vet talks about. Here lately it has become harder to shift the range lever but I figured out a little trick that makes it back to two fingers. After depressing clutch and just before stop rolling apply the brakes. Shifts fine this way but I know it is not right and want to fix. Is it the trans brake that is out of adjustment here? Can I adjust that without going thru the entire adjustment procedure? How?

I give the trans brake a half-turn "nudge" when they start doing that nonsense. :>)

Hey Allan, glad you were looking over here. I thought I was posting on Farmall forum but I goofed. I'll have to read in my service manual a little cause can't remember right here and now whether that was the bolt that adjusts the dump valve or somewhere else. I'll try what you say tonight.

Applying the brake to stop roll back is always a good practice on all these hydraulic ta tractors if you are in a situation where it wants to roll back a little. Even when pushing a loader bucket into pile of dirt or snow or whatever. You can just unhook the brake for a test to see if it is actually the problem and needs adjustment. The dump valve is the other part of the adjustment procedure that may need tweaking. With all that being said, the wet clutchs have a tendency to hang on when released slowing down the roll back of the gear train wind up. As they wear they hang on more. The very first 7 and 806 tractors did not have grooves in the direct drive wet clutch in the ta and could be near impossible to get out of gear. I had to prove this to a IH rep one time by unhooking the trans brake, driving tractor up an incline and show him how it would not roll back down. Then by operating in ta for a brief time and retest it would roll down ok as the direct drive clutch had released then. Of course we had a ton of trouble with the clutch not releasing also so one had to make sure which was the problem.

Isn't there an add-on or after market kit for those to help them shift? I've been told about it being done and helping a lot.
